One caveat. I play a lot of games (many for only an hour to check them out), there is some je ne sais quoi about Godus that will draw people in. If they can extend that playtime by many times over with a decent version of the hubworld they've described they will secure a large amount of players hungry for a game that is even slightly "off the rails". Mobile is about competition as much as personal immersion. I think we can all agree that there is something inherently interesting about Godus, some deeper aspect that has drawn us all to it, and somehow has kept us enthralled through all the highs and lows of development, despite all it's lingering and glaring gameplay issues. It's quite mysterious really. btw: I noticed that many of the mobile users quickly caught on to the same strategic methods as the pc players; the top tactic being flatten everything and build sprawling "cities". This is seemingly resulting in them blowing through the content within a week, which is on par with the pc experience (once one realizes these methods of course).

You will find that I am an interesting blend of strategist and artist.
My map has more mountains, rivers, and terrain features than I started with. At the same time I raised a lot of coastal seabed to make my sprawling cities (water is the easiest land to revert back to something interesting. These areas I'm revisiting and updating a bit at a time. If you try and read peters mind you will see he's hard at work trying to incentivize having something other than a big parking lot (beyond trying to make it prohibitively expensive). Im banking on some automatic "survey" of the land, looking for terrain diversity, that affects your happiness or belief per hour.
I don't think this thread is an appropriate place to place my screenshots... maybe I will make a new thread should the great Ba'al will it. Is there actually a thread for interesting use of the land and sculpting tools?

If you try and read peters mind you will see he's hard at work trying to incentivize having something other than a big parking lot (beyond trying to make it prohibitively expensive). But actions (in this case, content deliverables) say otherwise. In fact housing and settlements now require more flattening than any previous iteration. Until housing and settlements and their offshoots (farms, mines, whatever comes in the future) are able to be multi-layered, there's no avoiding the parking lot effect. Limiting our ability to sculpt by making the costs prohibitive was a damn fool way of addressing this problem, frankly.

Limiting our ability to sculpt by making the costs prohibitive was a damn fool way of addressing this problem, frankly. It's not that there is "no way" as much as there is no reason for players to make terraced or interesting housing arrangements. There was that proposed "god of gods" choice about straight land or curved land offering certain bonuses to belief. A series of those kind of bonuses could make the extra effort of carving out settlement areas could make players take the extra time to make their housing more interesting. Could be things like: bonuses for how many different elevations the houses are at within a certain area. a happiness debuff for crowded housing that doesn't count it if they are on different layers. some overall percentages for housing of different types conferring bonuses. I think incentivizing vs cost curve manipulation is a long term solution.

Apparently Im already done playing the mobile version? There are no more beacons, the Astari are all dead and Im sitting with max Wheat, Ore and 12k of followers. I see LOTS of land but no more beacons. They refer to some beacon in the water but I dont even see that. I kinda enjoyed this game up to now... but now all I do is build huge villages and fill in the ocean.

New content usually comes in the form of a new map that is slightly different from the previous one that'll make you start over and do the exact same things again. Or perhaps a new type of sticker.

I've also heard that Crazy people are generally some of the most determined indi iduals, steadfastly dedicated and slave to thier insanity. Well then, call me a nut-job, because I'd say that pretty much sums up our experience.

I heartily support the initiative of this thread. rubgish, I'm leaving you in charge of it. Don't let me down. EDIT: I stickied the thread for you until further notice. We'll see how it goes. I will rule it with an iron fist and crush any sign of dissent against my authoritarian rule... so basically exactly the same way I'll be treating my followers in Godus I'm starting to wonder if there is still a reason to have this thread stickied to the board. You're in charge rubgish so you let me know. Are we even still on topic? Where's the iron fist you promised us?
