How is that one positive? I mean, yea its not openly negative other than remarking on the freemium mechanics that might diminish your opinion of the game. But for the most part it pretty much defines what the game is - infinite expansion of your people with a whiff of progression in the form of the timeline. Basicly what everyone else points out as "flaws" or lack of gameplay, they point out as "well, maybe this is something for you if you think other games require too much actual playing." Positive (in my opinion) would be to point out something the game or product excells at. Not a neutral "I don't really know, you should probably see for yourself..."

It's the first review I've read that doesn't bag the game outright. As you say though its far from a glowing recommendation.

Another slightly positive review. I thought this comment was the biggest load of bollocks I've ever read:
"Godus is already hugely improved over its initial release on PC, and it’s clear that Molyneux and the rest of his team are actively taking feedback on board and addressing player complaints. Whether it really is the future of the God Game that 22cans claims is still up for debate; but at the very least it’s a pleasant diversion with plenty of charm and personality."

www.continue-play.com/preview/godus-ios-review/ Its so disappointing that there are review sites that are so afraid to give critical reviews that they end up sounding fake by exclusively looking for the "good" things. I'm getting the feeling that some sites just do not allow their writers to put up anything that could be considered as negative or to pose criticism of any form. You either praise it or you be as positive as possible. They shift the value emphasis on the company rather than the consumer. Fearing that providing a bad review might but them on some sort of blacklist. Rather than focusing on providing informative and proper review to the consumer. Its much like how a lot of legal mechanics are set up in favor of companies and corporations - rather than to protect the individual.

Its much like how a lot of legal mechanics are set up in favor of companies and corporations - rather than to protect the individual. You have to remember that the horribleness of Godus is more than the sum of its parts. Mobile Godus is a poor-to-middling game which got loads of exposure in a market place where people have a high tolerance for poor-to-middling games. Those users have not been exposed to PM's lies and delusions, the broken promises of 22Cans and the bordering fraudulent (in some ways unquestionably fraudulent, just not on the scale that's worth taking action against) way in which 22Cans have managed this development project up until this point. If I hadn't been exposed to any of that and hadn't spent any time or money on the PC game, and someone handed me an iPad with iOS Godus on it, I'd not want to play it particularly but I'd think it was pretty and probably ok by F2P standards. The positive reviews don't surprise me that much and as 22Cans have already said, most of their users won't be reading reviews anyway, positive or otherwise.

Its not a trend thats exclusive to Godus though. Plenty of sites uphold this theme, it just shows more on titles such as Godus that contain such blatant flaws. I'd say any reviewer worth its salt would point out that the current version of Godus is lacking in content. Even if you haven't bothered to look beyond the obvious and thus haven't been exposed to the reputation that has been build up around Godus.
Its not even that you're being excessively negative. A review should be objective, so stating that the game is heavily riddled with timers and lacks actual content seems an obvious thing to remark. And considering the nature of mobile games, it might not even be seen as a full-on negative by many players (players which in general don't read reviews lol...)
What I mean to say is that there are review sites out there that will claim to have reviewed a game, but if you read the review you'll quickly realize that they haven't played through most of the content. Or if they have they have done so with blinds on. First Impressions aren't reviews.
