Lol! Please feel sorry for us coz it's rains so much in Guildford. Follow the designer on twitter, just don't expect him to tweet anything. Raspofabs that is one shameless plug.

The $50 and $100 gem purchases still are appalling... Its clear that they intend atleast for SOME people to spend that much or more on their mobile game. =/
Makes me sick. Especially when you realize how little 650~1400 gems actually gets done by playing the PC game.

Especially when you realize how little 650~1400 gems actually gets done by playing the PC game. It gets even better. Upgrade powers/shrines is such a huge cash grab. "We won't use gems with gameplay. lolNOTHINGISGAMEPLAY" or "We won't use gems with multiplayer gameplay. lolsingleplayer" Edit:
On a lighter note, Monkeythumbz/ Matthew Allen where should I throw out feedback for the mobile version anyway? I tossed up a thread over on Steam, since I know we keep an eye there, but not sure how much attention the subforum gets. Subreddit's a free for all and I don't think FB/Twitter's necessarily the best, and the official forums are pretty dead.

I personally think if they are going to brag about being so small, they should fess how how they got that money and it was NOT for any F2p. This just makes me sick.

I have actually installed it on Android, if only so I have something to do while waiting for ore in main branch! Playing it to on both at the same time might need medical intervention though...
I think it has far too many popup messages that distract but usability wise its maybe better in my Note3 (4.4.2/KitKat) than on my touchscreen windows laptop. The gems store is an annoyance, and although I've only gone as far as the second expansion beacon/50-ish population it does give a good first impression.
Though with the iOS update complains on the 22cans site from last night we appear to have another mobile melt down brewing.

I nearly choked at the £3.82-£76.37 Per item in-app purchases. Actually, it's the first time I've looked at the prices of them. (I've not had to do any of the IAP GUI programming, so managed to avoid that). I would have thought charging so much for gems would be detrimental to our sales. I would have at least one Gem card (probably the 50) at the lowest price possible (what is that $.49?) otherwise I would think we're pushing away people, not inviting them to spend. $5 is too much in my opinion. Obviously not the opinion of 22cans etc etc.

You can say that again. I truely believe its dispicable to even OFFER an option of over €50 - since that indicates that you intend for atleast *some* people to spend that much. Considering the PC game is sold for €20, pushing gems for that much does corrupt the core essence of the game. I have no problems with micro-transactions on principle, but I do believe that they should carry inherent value. So actual unique cosmetics or unique features are a great way to go. Pay-2-Win features (buying things that a regular player can't get that is undeniably stronger) are not done ofcourse. In my opinion honest monetization relies on offering cosmetic functionality and other side benefits. Selling "time" is an iffy option, while I don't oppose it in principle it can be implemented in horrible ways (dropping game speed and rates, then offer a 'booster' to set it back to normal speeds). Its basicly the "net neutrality" problem of offering fastlanes and throttling users that don't pay. - "Good" micro-transaction monetization:
- Character cosmetics (Unique skins, alternate looks, event items and so on)
- Vanity items (Non-combat pets, decoration,
- Fairly priced content / DLC
A good example is Lord of the Rings Online - they offer a subscription access for players, but also an alternative where you can buy each zone seperately and permanently unlock it to your account to access even when not subscribed. You can even acquire the 'currency' by doing achievement-like objectives and effectively play through the entire game completely for free.
- "Questionable" micro-transaction monetization:
- "Boosters" - Selling 'time' to the player by having them buy in-game items without having to spend a lot of time on it. (See net-neutrality example above for 'risks')
When done well it offers time-constrained players a chance to play along with those who can play all day. When done wrong it degrades the core game in order to push people to spend money.
- Unique content like exclusive battlegrounds locked away for paying players. (Risk alienating your playerbase and causing fragmentation)
When done well, special queues can offer a subscriber priority access while still allowing non-paying players access. When done wrong this results in 'dead zones' for paying players because there aren't enough of them active.
- Overpriced content / low-value content / content thats blatantly cut from the game. (Example: Mass Effect's Protean character, which is clearly a strong part of the game)
- Map packs / features ported over from previous games.
Often these are added because they already know the players like them, but kept out of the base game as an easy money-grab.
- "Bad" micro-transaction monetization:
- Pay-2-Win - Selling unique items that are objectively stronger.
- Freemium mechanics put in the game for the sole reason to have the player spend money.
Monetization should serve gameplay, not the other way around.
Those are just a few examples I can think of quickly.
The current iteration of Godus' gems clearly fall in the booster and overpriced/low-value content catagories. Allowing you to buy off timers to speed up gameplay or otherwise pay for cosmetics like flags and such that don't really do anything to the game nor offer consistent value. A better alternative would be to unlock "skins" or "themes" that get unlocked once and can be repeatedly applied or placed. Aswell as paying gems to speed up timers globally for a duration (mobile exclusive).

IMO - I prefer IAP that buys me a thing, a one off. If not that, then a currency that is used to buy non-consumables. That's all I have to say on it really.

Hi,
I just checked godus 2.4 yesterday. What happened? Have you beautifying the game once again(well with the mobile version)? Now you charge gems/money to level up the spells? Is that a joke?
Do not transpose that version on PC as you're working now on it? Try to stay alive folks, stop junk food and don't do that...

Remember when Peter lied about your followers becoming visibly upset if you spent more than 20? pounds on IAP. I remember. I assumed he was either being facetious (eg. saying something ridiculous because he found it amusing), or he was being devious and wanted to see if saying that spurred people to spend more just so see if it was true. I wouldn't put it past him at this point for him to be doing the latter, though part of me suspects he is also the type of person with his head so high up in the clouds while also holding himself (especially his ideas and humor) with such high regard that he's unable to have the foresight to see the reality of how it'll turn out. Although he does seem the type to say whatever thing tickles his brain in-the-moment, thus a lot of the silliness and lack of focus in the videos, and so it's possibly the former. He's probably a really nice guy, maybe (I assume everyone is nice until proven otherwise), except he might also be the kind of person that tells you right to your face what he thinks; because, like a hyperactive 4yr old, he seeks to say whatever he's thinking, without thinking. Since early on in this project, I began to really understand why Peter has such a reputation; because 90% of what he says about a game and it's features sounds like such fantastically whimsical bull$h!t you can't help but first get excited by the prospect, but then over time begin doubting he's even the slightest bit serious. He seems to lack awareness of the effect of what he says, whether he's acutely aware of his own actions or not; because even if he's a bit timid about opening up to people, it doesn't seem to stop him from saying things he might later regret. If he is that kind of devious person, imagine this scenario; he picks up catering to serve at a dinner party at his house, but instead he claims/pretends he made it himself - going so far as to put it in pans and skillets for effect - and he seems so excited and pleased with his culinary brilliance you almost buy it, but as the dinner progresses you somehow suspect he's fibbing except for lack of evidence; unless you forcefully search his garbage, or somehow convince him to fess up. Somehow you still like him - and kind of applaud his effort at trickery - but the whole ordeal has you questioning his sanity, and by effect all your future dinner party invites; you'll never trust him, and probably question every home-cooked dinner party meal here-on-out as being 100% legit. But you would never had known had you not searched his garbage, or goaded him into confessing, and that in-turn makes you feel a bit awful. I feel like an ass for even thinking and typing this, but I just don't know how else to explain what has transpired over the course of this project. I'm not trying to defame him, I'm just trying to grasp exactly what he thought the outcome would be (early on, and as time progressed) with all that's been said and done. Seems like he's possibly finally noticing or admitting, or at least allowing himself to realize, just how bad it all really is. Moral of the story; don't promise things you are not able to, or not willing to, or simply cannot deliver. And certainly don't "Fake it 'til you make it" because that really doesn't work out all that often; oddly Peter has been somewhat lucky in the past with that, but I think sadly it has finally caught up to him.

As posted on the spam site, I mean official forum:
So for my sins I unlocked astari in my homeworld and since I appear to need 20 crops to open up beautify to allow me to build the scourged/swamp beacon I've been building farmers.
First ever astari festival when the magic happiness barrier appeared I was just ahead of them. Post festival none of them came to me and none of mine went to the astari.
I did however drop in a gem based fountain purchase to assist in my overall happiness going forward.
Imagine my surprise when having quit the session for 25-ish hrs coming back sees me being told by popup I've lost one follower, unfortunate but no biggy.
Imagine my surprise when its actually 6 based on the temple info rather than the pop up.
Imagine my surprise when every single one of those was a farmer in the fields.
So I have a few farmers generated in the settlements but EVERY SINGLE allocated farmer was the unhappy follower who went to the astari - what are the odds!
1) So given the 24hr happiness tug of war fires when we're off line, why were my followers dancing around the fountain I paid gems for still showing they had 50 minutes of their hour left... So no I'm not supposing that my 50 minutes when I was not in session would have made a single difference in the dubious selection of farmers from fields to convert to astari, but...
2) why does the popup show 1 when 6 left?
3) why did I get no astari converts when I won the first festival with higher happiness?

Yeah, that imbalance has been questioned since it's introduction, and yet it persists; so it's understandable that nobody believes their promises or vision anymore until they either own up to it, or actually follow through. Until then, I doubt everything they say - which doesn't make me feel very good as either a player, as a backer, or even as a person. This project has made me not like who I am when dealing with Godus or 22Cans - and that just makes me even more angsty about it all.
Speaking of... BTW: I think it's adorable that people are still making suggestions on the forums, as though that's going to change anything. Two years into this mess, and the same or similar basic ideas are still being tossed out as were written repeatedly throughout the entirety of development. If those suggestions make any impact or difference, I'll be the first to throw the biggest desk-flipping hissy-fit - after my initial falling out of chair shock coma - and then thank them for finally listening (and maybe ask that they not give any one individuals credit for any ideas, in the name of community and developer civility, and sanity).
