First question: hey, public perception changed calling you a used car salesman, how's that make you feel? Response: Uh..Yeah I suck at PR but I really believe in what I do! I've been in spotlight so long people might see it as a sales talk but now I'm selling you could get it free on iOS or help in development on PC via Steam Early Access. Really, I don't know what I'm selling anymore! I'm an indie dev now though, so... Usual I'm a terrible PR person spiel, I've been trying to wind down from public events (despite being there at one...in an interview...) and I don't see myself as a salesperson or showman. I just don't even see the audience, I tell them what I try to tell my development team (this would explain a lot...), and so on and so forth. Nothing really new.

I think the clip said 1 of 4?(on mobile so can't check) but couldn't find anything else. Def say part 1.

My god. He sounds literally deluded. For anyone who can't stand to sit through yet another PM video, in this clip Peter describes how when he worked for Microsoft he would always be doing things like overselling games, promoting stuff on stage, making promises he couldn't keep, getting distracted, losing focus on his goals, etc. Not like now! Now he's at 22Cans and those things don't happen anymore.

I think what happened is when he worked at Microsoft they made him actually finish projects and deliver something consumers would accept, now he's an "indie" there is no one holding him to completion. Peter sees the corporate environment undermining his creativity, detracting from finished products, and leading to broken promises, I think we all know all know now the problems rest with peter and nobody else.

Just watching the first one now.
I like German interviewers, they are direct. Peter's first answer is very shakey.

Definitely very self aware and unwilling to double down on his past hypocritical criticisms of DK.
Its interesting that he says he's there to promote GODUS when I presume this was filmed after he made the decision to abandon it?

Its interesting that he says he's there to promote GODUS when I presume this was filmed after he made the decision to abandon it? sorry misread - Can't be after he decided to concentrate on the new game as this was record at PGC 2015 Jan 13th. exactly right apologies. Moo has said Peter will still overview things and he is the face of 22cans, a role which only seems to cause more problems for them. Interviewer ends with "thank you Peter" so I guess there are only 2 parts. Bet press only want to talk about failure with him now.

Serious question. Is PM still part of 22cans??? Yes but he's devoting his efforts (and those of his pet Jack) to working on the Trail.

He's making things worse, for 22cans, with interviews like that.

So Peter tries not to be the spokesman anymore. Well he appears to do a good job of it. This raises the question though, who is the spokesman for 22cans?

I suspect this isn't going to work out like that. When it comes to selling and talking up a product there's no one like Peter. There man's a sorcerer in that regard. The problem historically is that Peter has been utilized in this regard far too early in the development cycle. At stages when no one should be talking about features. I can't help but thinking things would be a lot different had their been a proper marketing strategy in place and I'm not just talking about Godus, which let's face it became the perfect storm of pr disasters. This is not in my opinion one of Peter's strengths. What Peter needs is a strong marketing director that understands the process of game development and has the influence and authority to determine when and what Peter speaks about.
So far Peter has remained very tight lipped about The Trail, I hope it continues. I can't help but be worried that he'll get excited and make some impromptu, impulsive statement.

Many of the Backers (and later, Steam players) kind of said as much, very early on, and cautioned that 22Cans needed reel Peter in or it was going to cause more issues than solve; but once the gate was open, sadly they couldn't seem to put the goat back in the pen...

Though obviously someone dropped the ball on that, coz if no one had spoken about the trail we would have all been under the impression that everyone was still working on godus. How did we get to hear about the trail? Wasn't it in some interview?

Like I said lack of pr/marketing director. I don't think keeping The Trail quiet would have been a good decision, but it would have been nice if it had waited until the Godus transition had been worked out. I am pleasantly surprised Peter isn't revealing any details about the actual game itself and hope he continues not to until much further down the line.

I hope he will say something about Godus, like a clear statement of plans would be nice. But I won't hold my breathe

Do you believe Godus would have reached its goal if Peter didn't do his usual "marketing spree"? I'm not sure if that's the right place to ask, but is 22Cans still considered an indie studio since Godus mobile has a publisher. What influence does DeNA have over Godus?
