Astari are totally brainless:
This morning there were 199 Astari left in Astariton on the southern island in Weyworld. All the other Astari in Weyworld have been assimilated or have vanished. Every festival, like clockwork, their population decreased by four but only one shows up in my realm. This pattern had become tedious so I decided to destroy their one wheat field with a meteor. Unfortunately a few trees caught fire which was unintended but fortunately there was no collateral damage. I had expected an Astari to come out and plant a new wheat field but no apparently they are too stupid to do that. Even odder, though their happiness dipped a bit, after their stupid festival their population only dropped by three and none swam over to my lands. The three who vanished have apparently committed suicide out of despair. But why no turncoat? I can only surmise that they are bitter, possibly fearful and determined to cling to their dying culture. It would be cool if they began to starve now being that they have no food source and they are either too lazy or too stupid to plant more crops. But I have a feeling that they will survive by eating the fruits of their bitterness and spite. I can only say that none died by my hand and if they are too bitter or lazy to survive I wash my hands of it. My tamed Astari are fruitful and happy and live in several park like villages. They have it good.
Whatever.

Well, it seems the situation is a bit more complicated than I had assumed. Apparently the tight food situation in Astariton is taking its toll. After today's festival one "Joshua Pickering" swam over to my shores on an empty belly and with a dangerously low energy level. I took pity on the poor devil and let him dwell in one of my villages. I've noticed there's a small forest on the eastern border of Astariton Island, perhaps they are gathering nuts and grubs in order to fend off starvation. But "Joshua" didn't look all that healthy. I also noticed that the population dropped from 196 to 194; meaning that one either starved or committed suicide and one escaped across the border. So the pattern has indeed been broken but not in the way I intended. Their population is dropping at only half the previous rate. Perhaps I'm reading too much into all this and it's just bad programming.

Update: same thing today. After their heinous festival one female Astari swam to freedom and one vanished. She came out of the Astari city with an empty energy meter. I had been thinking that they were down to subsisting on grubs, nuts and fungus ever since I destroyed their one wheat field but I just had a horrible thought; perhaps there is cannibalism in Astariton!! Think about it. Each day one comes over and one simply disappears. A bit too much of a coincidence in my book. I used to be disappointed that we can't look inside the different abodes and cities but now I'm frankly relieved. Imagine the scene of inhuman and monstrous depravity within the walls of that city if they are devouring their own!!
They continue to consume large quantities of wine from their demonic fountain during their hellish celebration but won't lift a finger to plant more crops.
I will continue to monitor the situation and report.

Update, 02/06/2015: well things have gone from bad to worse. One "Nick Wyre," a gaunt and despondent Astari, paddled over to my realm this afternoon. The population in Astariton has now dropped from 194 to 191 tortured souls. I'm wishing now that 22Cans had the foresight to include a Red Cross or other relief group program which I could send over there to take a look at the rapidly deteriorating situation. There's no point in asking 22Cans for help anyway; it might be months or never before they wrote the rescue program. All the Astari on Astariton Island will be dead long before that. It's really frustrating I'll tell you. Here I'm a god and my hands are tied!! You would think a god would have more power!!
I never dreamed being a god could be so futile until I came to Godus.
I'll try to get another report out tomorrow.

Update, 02/07/2015: population 189. Sorry for the delay in today's report. Can you imagine a god having to hold down a day job? Pitiful. Well it seems that I'm witnessing the gradual extinction of an entire hominid sub species, at least in its wild form. I wish I could send an anthropologist to Astariton Island to study the Astari culture and document their barbaric festivals before they become a mere footnote in history. But do you think that 22Cans might have provided an anthropologist program? Of course not! Grossly irresponsible I say!
So I'm left to take notes as best I can. At least history will have the observations and notes of a lay god, which I suppose is better than nothing.
Will send out another report as soon as possible. I'm still hoping to figure out a way to ascertain whether the Astari have devolved into a society of cannibals; the lowest, most loathsome, vile and horrific state to which any society can decline.
Cheers!

Update, 02/08/2015: Mermaids? I deeply appreciate the support of other gods during these desperate times but I hardly think this is the time for droll jesting and tomfoolery! Maybe they've turned into penguins or maggots for gods sake! Although I wouldn't be surprised if there are maggots at work in that city of evil shadows and degeneracy!
But where there is life there is yet hope. And as gods we should be willing to reach out a divine hand with mercy as well as to smite, obliterate, destroy and squash. Tis the eternal question and burden of our lot. Shall we mete out mercy or divine retribution? 'Twas the hand of divine retribution which caused me to smite their pitiful wheat field. And now it tis the perfect mercy and grace of my godlike heart which stays my hand ( for now ). Lo, as it was in our father's time and their father's time marching back to the mists of the first gods.

Special Breaking Update: Well,... Don't that beat all. I've been asking, no actually begging, 22Cans and FuriousMoo for help here for days with the disaster unfolding on Astariton Island. And what do I get?? Freaking absurd, ludicrous heart and flower costumes for my people to prance around in?? And diapers to put on my starving Astari?? And then you have the unmitigated audacity to call it the "Feast" of Roses!!! Sure, I get it. Let them eat cake, or let them eat roses! Really funny. You know that's kinda sick.

Update, 02/09/2015- Okay, so here's what I know so far: 1.) 22Cans is not going to send any help. I'm on my own. 2.) my powers as a "god" are severely limited. Thanks to 22Cans again. 3.) at least one Astari is dying for each one I can manage to rescue. Sorry Marshmallows but I've dismissed the "mermaid hypothesis." No evidence for that. Not one scale. 4.) I cannot "enter into" my world as some kind of Astari savior or even as an old man with a flock of crows trailing after him. Another oversight by 22Cans. I may have to send a note to Oculus Rift or project Morpheus about this issue. 5.) I have incredible destructive powers: comet, meteor, swamp, finger of god, but almost no power to heal, restore, build, investigate, communicate or repair. Where is the choice between good and evil in that lopsided arrangement? I used to have an unlimited ability to beautify but that power has been drained from me by some dark force. 6.) it sometimes seems that the uber gods on the dark star of 22Cans have abandoned the gods below! I cry out for justice from them! Give us our righteous and ordained powers that we might smite and heal as our mighty forbears did of yore, that we might rest at ease in their hallowed halls without shame when our time as gods doth pass! 7.) my brethren and sistren amongst the gods are as helpless as I though their hearts be true as the guiding star which guides the wayward bark. 8.) I can't even create a wheat field on my own. 9.) the Astari on Astariton Island are screwed.

You can kind of restore/heal, whether by beautify/rain of purity/follower boost - not ideal I know but they are things you can do. FoG is as constructive as destructive - you get to put the idle astari who want their YTS payments for nothing to be squished, since they in the last too minuscule updates want nothing to do with anything.

Update, 02/10/2015: Finally a bit of good news. The population of Astariton Island dropped from 185 to 184 after the festival today and one "Maxine Leach" swam to the safety of my shores. No missing Astari. I can only surmise that they are growing mushrooms or tubers in Astariton, or have developed a hydroponic technology. It's hard to believe given their historic stupidity but facts are facts. But now I have another problem. The more the Astari have to struggle to survive and the more their population declines, the closer they come to total extinction, the happier they get!! So now I have to look at the possibility that as they approach total doom their vast happiness may entice my Followers to join them in obliteration. If this happens I may be left with no choice but enabling them in their quest for eternal rest. Funny that 22Cans still refers on their loading screen to how the way I treat these tiny people will impact the way they behave and interact. Yet the game is pushing me toward making a destructive decision which I would never otherwise make! I suppose I could consider the bad programming itself to be a kind of Mephistopheles in my universe and choose the lesser of two evils. That would be saving my Followers. They are after all My Followers, and the Astari have had generations to see the light and prostrate themselves before me.
22Cans has put me in a serious ethical dilemma here.

Here begins the analysis: You know, it really wouldn't be that difficult for 22Cans to take steps "toward" making a world where each god could have a choice between good and evil or constructive or destructive impulses and watching the result unfold. Very strangely they have been edging in the opposite direction. My game used to have easy, free, permanent "beautify." Now, I cannot use it at all because it has a time limit and leaves total lack of beauty in its wake! You see, the areas I had previously used permanent beautify on have retained their permanent beauty. So they have rendered a power useless and unusable and moved away from choice of good or evil in one stroke! Why? It makes no sense at all. The choice between destructive or constructive god is or should be, an intrinsic, base level aspect of the game not a chance to sell things to the player. I actually bought a very small quantity of gems early on but under the circumstances I would never spend another dime. It's a huge mistake to cannibalize the core game for profits. Give us back permanent beautify and begin atoning for your sins. And one more thing. How difficult is it to fix up the mucked up and irrational Astari happiness meter FuriousMoo ?? Changing the "parameters" on that one thing should be ridiculously easy. No?? Thanks for your comments engarde

I lol'd at that. It'll make a good sig quote Also, I went down the same path for both Homeworld and Weyworld - smite or be smited. Though a word of advice before you decide to smite - collect as many Astari as you can. After the complete annihilation of the enemy Astari, each Astari dwelling on your land can only contain one Astari (kind of like one Builder). Even if you have 35 in one Astari dwelling, only one will come out. Also, when they breed, they will not make more Astari. Also also, when leashed to build new lots, your Astari will build a Blue follower lot. In the end, your collected Astari are limited by the number of Astari abodes before the annihliation. Even though I converted about 47 of them, I now only have 2 Astaris.

Marshmallows -doesn't surprise me a bit. But if they ever get around to fixing the Astari at 22Cans (big if) those Astari may be the seed of something worthwhile. You might even get your lost Astari back. i have no idea why I'm being so optimistic right now. luckily I lodged most of my Astari in small abodes.

Update, 02/11/2015: One Jackie Jenkins made the perilous crossing to land on my beach today. She arrived despondent, crushed and starving and sat crying on the shore apparently unable to even build a simple hut. The thunderstorm which 22Cans sends moments after I enter my realm almost every time may have unnerved her in her weakened condition. The population on Astariton Island now stands at 183. Bizarrely and unnaturally the happiness meter on Astariton Island continues to rise as if to mock everything that is decent and good. The one other great city of the Astari in Weyworld stands in ruins and the clock is ticking down for this last remnant of their civilization and they are filled with glee. Yet I would still withhold my righteous hand and smite them not. Not while hope remains.
I am now housing these desperate refugees in small abodes scattered throughout my land in hopes of preserving and hiding them from the dark forces at 22Cans. Grant me strength to fight this abomination.
