Hah. That documentary clip (extremely sleek! good work by Jack) is like the prelude in a superhero film explaining the rise of the villain.

Wow, watching that video was an amazing experience. I felt the anger and betrayal being sucked out of me and replaced with sympathy. What would it have been like to work in the that environment of exuberance, to slave day and night to produce GODUS. From promises of reinventing genres rescuing mobile gaming from free 2 play hell to produce a poor cousin of clash of the clans. I'm being completely honest watching that video has changed the way I think about everyone at 22Cans, I cant imagine the effect Jacks documentary will have one me.

I think it feels so strange because you know the ending and its so incredibly disappointing. So the video is hype and all the people are so excited but I know what is awaiting them is a career dead end and a woeful game unworthy of their toil. How depressing.

Re-watching the video just now, I'm unsure where the full documentary is likely to end up (assuming the documentary Jack has been talking about lately is a continuation of this one). Jack did this presentation in 2014 just before the iOS launch. At this point, 22Cans was completely absorbed in their delicious iOS project and were completely ignoring the PC users, who had been loudly and ineffectually voicing strong complaints for several months. The documentary was also originally intended for the Early Access launch, so will have been designed to inspire confidence in customers about the project and encourage people to participate. The logical continuation, if Jack remains loyal to PM, would be a bleak view of circumstances beyond Peter's control crushing his dream. Horrible PC players complaining about petty grievances, sabotage by fans with chips on their shoulders, technology not playing ball, people leaving the team at awkward times, finances not working out in some impossible-to-predict manner.

Video under whelmed me.
Though I see from tweet section that the new business is fielding/pitching to more local leg-ends. You'd have thought he be slightly more adverse to leg-end involvement by now.

I couldn't agree more - the right documentary here, one that truly and *honestly* examines the reasons for failure - would be an amazing story - most especially because of the passion of both Peter and crew - and the passion of us dissenters unhappy with the results. Humanity clashing - the stuff great documentaries are made of.

Funny how in all the videos Jack never seemed more than the reader of the questions or mic man IMHO. PM seemed to asked Jacks opinions and he never wanted to give them on camera. Maybe he wanted to avoid the foot in mouth moments PM seemed to enjoy creating so much. I have no ill will towards the guy, but will the godus community miss him? Probably not, it's not as though he was highly interactive with anyone on the forums (correct me if I'm wrong).

Good luck to Jack then, and to the rest of 22cans that you can have a glance like fishes in an aquarium on twitch Take it easy, have fun on other games then.

I can only assume that that had something to do with his refusal to comment in later videos or exclusively doing so 'in jest'. Good luck to Jack then, and to the rest of 22cans that you can have a glance like fishes in an aquarium on **snip** Take it easy, have fun on other games then. Its one of those "Well we did promise it, so here you have it, now be quiet." moments. Hey, at the very least 22cans can serve as the prime example of how NOT to go about crowdfunding and Early Access.

Anyone wondering how Jack had a demo of his new game to show these guys? He only left 22cans Friday. I've a really funny feeling Jacks project could be a new game formally called the Trail? Conveniently released by a different company, not 22cans? Maybe Peter will be backing this new company? Sorry maybe Godus has made me see conspiracies where none exist. It has a lot to answer for Sorry to quote myself and I've seen someone else jest the same, but I wouldn't be at all surprised to see Tim Rance became a director at Jacks company. Plus a product ready for release shortly after, What if there was a plan afoot to get the trail out the back door without PM attached, but again maybe I see a conspiracy where none exists, but these changes are very convenient. Let's just say, 22cans develop a "game engine" and sell that to another company to use in their game. Perfectly legal right, both get a cut of the profits? No one else seems to of have the wholly amicable split with 22cans that Jack got. Time will tell if when we see the games details from Jack and 22cans.

Spiderweb - I've seen worse. What was left of "EA Mythic" after the spectacular initial release of Dungeon Keeper Mobile was made into a "different company" called Broadsword Games, who are at the moment trying to disassociate themselves with EA. EA is accepting the money, but they're like, totally a completely different company! You couldn't come up with a better coincidence to say "BS Games". They tried to get Ultima Online and Dark Age of Camelot through Steam Greenlight, presumably to bypass old publishing deals between EA and VALVe. Keep in mind, BS Games tried to do this in a way that Steam would just be providing free advertising for their game, and VALVe wouldn't have received anything except for the Greenlight fees. BS Games also said that they would be answering questions on Steam...and to my recollection, months later, they haven't shown back up since they posted the games. Oh...I think it might have been a year already, I should go take another look to see if their ironically social media-phobic community managers have managed to figure out Steam again.

Perhaps the Guardian was paid by 22cans to do the interview with Jack in order to put his departure in a light that wouldn't hurt 22cans' reputation.

Perhaps the Guardian was paid by 22cans to do the interview with Jack in order to put his departure in a light that wouldn't hurt 22cans' reputation. You don't need to pay someone to get a favourable narrative, you just do an interview with the person you think will give you favourable coverage. I didn't see him doing 10 interviews with different media so clearly access was controlled and perhaps questions vetted. Ultimately though Jack is a decent guy and Laura isn't going to unload on him the in interview so on those terms it would only be relatively puff. Should she have given them that platform? I don't see the harm.
