I would say that we have a quite moderate climate here in Germany, especially here in the south. The winter isn't that cold and also the summer isn't too hot, even when the weather has become irregular the last few years due to the climate change, I guess, so it's not easy to forecase it precisely. Also the precipitation isn't that high, which is indeed a problem sometimes regarding the agriculture. Also if you don't care the Krauts with their traditional leather dress and their affinity to have veal sausages and wheat beer for breakfast (just a cliche, not all of us are doing so, LOL) , it's worth a trip, I would say. Ther are some nice and old citys arround and also the landscap is quite nice here and there.

Delaware is a place with all four seasons. It can get a foot of snow in much of winter and can be be 100 F/32 C in the summer. Spring is amazing and Fall is cool. It was the best of all worlds, weatherwise. Not as humid as the south, but you can get a fair share of it at times. If you pick the right spot you can have a large yard and house and yet be within 40 minutes of Philly, 1.5 hours of DC and Baltimore, 2 hours of AC, and 3 hours from NYC.
If I hit a lottery, I would move back in an instant.

Well if you like the look of Scotland but fancy somewhere a bit more accessible then there are always areas such as The Lake Dristrict or Snowdonia to visit (England and Wales, respectively). The Lakes is very touristy, so can be expensive, but it is a beautiful part of the world. Snowdonia is georgeous too, but then I am biased on that front, living only a short drive away. For architecture, you are probably best going to some of the old Roman towns/cities like York or Chester, for example. The pub trade over here has suffered massively since 2007, what with the global recession meaning it's much cheaper to drink at home, combined with the introduction of the smoking ban. A lot of pubs these days are just parts of national chains, like identikit pubs, without charm or character. The problem is they can undercut the local independants on price too, so make it even harder. You can still find some wonderful old fashioned pubs out in the countryside though, especially in the aforementioned national parks. You soon get used to driving on the opposite side of the road too. Having toured europe via motorcycle on a few occasions, it becomes second nature quite quickly. There are constant reminders by way of roadside furniture to keep you on track. The times it's easiest to forget are when you stop somewhere in the middle of nowhere with no traffic. Then you have to ensure you are paying attention! If you are driving over here, I would just say to have a quick look at the higway code with regard to signage. In Wales and Scotland the roadsigns are bi-lingual (Welsh and Gealic, respectively) which may get a bit confusing if you aren't sure what you are looking at. Oh, and despite the fact we use the metric system for most things, road signs all give distances in Miles, car speedometers are primarilly displayed in Miles per hour, and speed limits are measured in the same units. Most importantly, beer is ordered in pints from a pub. (or halves, if that is what you prefer?)

I live about as far from The United Kingdom as it is possible to be, however, id like to offer my two cents. First of all I massively underestimated London and focused on other European cities. This was a mistake. There are heaps of amazing things to do in London. A few I really enjoyed were:
• tour of parliament • visiting Greenwich (I presume as a navy man you know about the Harrison clocks?) • the British museum
The British museum is amazing. I budgeted about 2.5 hours (I had to meet my cousin for lunch) and I didn't even get out of the classical section.
Anyway the only advice I have is don't underestimate London. I wished I'd spent more time in the UK.

So, an overdue update; we're actully here, in London. This trip is a combination 15yr toghether/9yr married, as well as a second honeymoon. It is also the first time either of us has traveled overseas (excluding my Navy tours to the Bahamas & Caribbean) So, it's kind of a big deal.
I meant t do a follow-up before we left, but was thorougly caught up in planning, preparation, and working overtime to be able to pay for it. Oy! So, my energies and focus were fairly exhausted in those affairs - though now that we're here, it seems we may not have planned enough, but having a fabulous time despite being somewhat disorganised (and slept in more than we meant, today. Jetlag. lol.). We've really only just begun our holiday (having arrived on Wednesday morn), and seen many sites today. However, it feels as though we've only scratched the surface, due to the sheer number of places to see, dining to be had, and things to do. We walked far too much although we used the underground as often as possible. By the time we got to Westminster, sadly, everything had closed - but the Abby, Parliament, Big Ben, and the London Eye were all gorgeous to look at in the late evening.
It's now past midnight as I type this, the wife asleep soundly next to me (her poor feet, heels may have been a poor choice, but she look so amazing, so beautiful. I'm smitten). Though, I'll suggest strongly tomorrow she wear the sneakers for at least the early day traversing the sights.
This trip is just beginiing, and so far it's been simply amazing, stimulating, enlightening, and exhausting.
Hopefully I can check back within the next couple days for more updates.
Cheers and good night!

I have done this too many times and always curse myself in the end. If you head over to Belfast let us know!

Keep us posted, I've done London but there are loads of amazing places to visit in the UK that I've never been to and I'll be looking out for inspiration. If the weather in London was anything like here in Cambridge the last day or two, you will have experienced a good British soaking. I know I did, cycling home last night... then again 20 minutes later, after I'd changed my clothes and ventured out to the shop when the rain pretended to stop. What restaurants are you visiting?

Wow, thanks everyone. Just hopping on real quick while the wife is showering and getting ready to go out, so I've got a few moments to check up. Qetesh & Lord Ba'al : Yes, indeed. She will be wearing sneakers for the first half of the day, switching to boots prior to the evening; we're visiting Harrods in the early evening, of course, we want to feel fabulous and high class... for but once. We, unfortunately, will only be visiting lower Great Britain - mostly England, and possibly just a tad of Wales. There's just so much to see and so little time. We're heading to Guildford tommorrow for the weekend, then it's on north towards the Birmingham region for the first half of the week. Our next, and last stop-over will be in the Peak District/Manchest/York region. There will be a good deal of driving involved, but hopefully I adjust quickly (I played many hours of Euro Truck Simulator in preparation. lol) and my wallet isn't too pinched by petrol prices; we must plan well, to reduce extra distances. Spiderweb : We're trying to fit in as much as possible, which means not lingering too long in one specific place, yet we feel we've really only seen the main sights. Today we plan to hit many more - and one I insisted on, the Faraday Museum - so it should be a productive, exciting day. Crumpy Six : It's looking to be much cooler today than the last couple days, which has been remarkably fair and pleasant so far. Although, late last night was chilly and damp. I'll report on the overall experience when I can. Well, it's my turn for the shower, and then it's off once again for our amazing London adventures. Cheers!

Rolled into Guildford Station this afternoon. As soon as I stepped out of the station, I looked left and saw the Hertz rental sign, looked right and immediately saw an office sign that says "Ubisoft" - I promptly forgot what I was supposed to be doing. The wife snapped me out of it, but I nearly walked over to peer inside - which would likely have been fine, since it's Saturday and seemed closed - but we had our luggage in tow.
Next, we got our first experience of both English towns, and I my first experience driving on English roads... this is going to take some getting use to; the driving on the left is no issue, it's the positions of both the left-hand mirror and shift that are catching me.
We were a tad early and decided to take a quick tour of Guildford Castle before heading towards our room - a quaint Manor in south Woking - for check-in. Next we hit a local place (Beefeaters?) that was fine for an evening meal, but not quite the "Pub" experience we were hoping for. We'll be certain to hit a few in the coming days.
Tomorrow we will be traipsing the local countryside and sights, a quick jaunt down to the coast, and then hopefully make it back before it's too dark. I'd also like to head back into Guildford proper and stalk take a quick drive past some of the game companies, time and wife permitting, of course.
That sounds like a busy day for a Sunday.
