It's called Crest. I think a couple members were looking at an early web-based prototype a while back. It's definitely a really interesting idea, but it's also still very early in development & rough around the edges. Has anybody else tried it?

Wow that sounds a lot like the initial pitch for godus.

Wow that sounds a lot like the initial pitch for godus. The really interesting thing they're trying to do is the "no direct control" idea. So there are no god powers, no sculpting, no "troop movement" (i.e. lassoing or totems). Your only way of guiding your people is via commandments. I really like the idea of the followers maybe not interpreting your commandments the exact way you intended them. I'm not sure how much of that is achieved purely by the vague nature of the icons used to construct commandments, and how much is based on some sort of AI that takes other things into consideration. As it stands now, it's very hard. I've put about 30 minutes into it (although it feels like less), and lost very badly every single time. It's very opaque – it's really hard to figure out the "right" commandments to give in order to develop a functioning society. And understanding why your people act in the way they do isn't always clear. I'm also concerned about the depth. The number of "nouns" & "verbs" for commandments are incredibly limited in its current state – and this is tricky, because more at the start would be too overwhelming, I think. On the flip-side, once you've issued a certain number of commandments, what's left to do? I know the game is meant to be open-ended, with no explicit goal, but that doesn't mean that there shouldn't be progression. I don't know what the developer's plan for this is. I sound very critical of it, but I think the idea is excellent and I think it shows a lot of promise. I look forward to seeing how it develops.

Wouldn't it be fantastically ironic if another studio swooped in, took similar ideas that 22cans pissed away in favour of mobile cow-clicking trash, and moulded them into a successful god game.
I'm not up to speed on IP laws.. so the question in my mind is, can it be called a rip-off if the things you are doing were discarded by another company as "insolvent"?

I think the concept looks very promising but it needs to be developed a lot. Let's keep an eye on this one.
