The peeps at Crytivo Games have allowed the community to come up with ideas and designs for The Universim on several occasions. They created several threads on their forum asking for input from the community on specific topics. It's been a while since the last thread was created, but hopefully they will continue on this path and perhaps a new topic is just around the corner. I am taking the liberty of posting the questions they have asked here so everyone can see what kind of cool things they have allowed the community to provide input on. Of course at this point these topics are most likely no longer open for input. If there are any new topics posted I will be sure to add them here so people can discuss them.

The Universim Community Labs - Mission #1Hello Universim citizens!Welcome to the first Community Lab mission where we post to the you, the community, for help in coming up with names, ideas and concepts. In other words, this is an opportunity for you to help us make The Universim an awesome experience because we want to share this journey of creating a game with our supporters! We are always looking for suggestions and ideas, so feel free to post any in the General Discussion forum! But let's get started with our first task: Mission #1: Temperature RegulationWhen exploring new planets in The Universim, your colonization team might suddenly find their new home not up to the comfortable standards of their life back on Mother Planet. With the right research in technology, your citizens will be able to create machines that will regulate the temperature of the new planet in attempts to create more suitable living conditions. Through our Prometheus engine, civilizations with the right technology will be able to view and understand how suitable a planet will be. [THERE'S SUPPOSED TO BE AN IMAGE HERE WHICH IS CURRENTLY NOT SHOWING ON THE OFFICIAL FORUM] Community Questions:What are these machines called?Be creative and fun with your descriptions! What do they look like?Post some images, or even share some drawings! Here are some quick examples for inspiration. Functionality? In your mind, how would they function? What are some research upgrades that could be applied? [THERE'S SUPPOSED TO BE AN IMAGE HERE WHICH IS CURRENTLY NOT SHOWING ON THE OFFICIAL FORUM] Our artists will take the best of your ideas and create some concepts based off of them. As a reward, those community members will earn themselves a new Engineering Badge to show off of. Until next time! ~Over and out

The Universim Community Labs - Mission #2Hello Universim citizens! We're back with another Community Lab and this time we're asking for your help in helping come up with Research ideas and concepts. This is going to be a huge task, but we know you guys are more than capable, so here we go! Mission #2: Research Ideas and ConceptsIn The Universim, you will be able to run different researches to help shape and guide your civilization the way you want. In order to make everyone's experience as unique as possible, we hope to have a huge list of different research options that range in their effects, use and overall play style. For example, one research option may increase the courage of your citizens causing them to face fear head on without fleeing, or another may simply allow you to add new colours to your clothing in the model editor. As you can guess, we want research to touch all corners of the game. Research can fall into two types, simply dubbed Global and Local, for now. Global research applies to all of your civilization across the universe, where Local are planet specific. Some research is applied immediately, and some open up an upgrade opportunity for Epicenters. Finally, some research will open up new avenues in the tree and some can even be run multiple times to increase the effects! Running research will have a cost, but for now your ideas will be more than enough! Community Questions:What are you research ideas? For each, fill out this template: [Research Name][Type]: Global or Local? [Category]: Make a new one, or base it off someone else's [Functionality]: Give a fun description! This can be a change in functionality, or simply visual. Be creative (but realistic)! Here's a very simple example: FarmingType: Local Category: Resources Functionality: Allows workers to build farms to auto produce food for the Epicenter Have fun, we look forward to seeing what crazy (and not so crazy, since we still need those) ideas you guys come up with!

The Universim Community Labs - Mission #3Hello Universim citizens! It's time to open the boards to the community for another Community Lab discussion! When deciding a potential topic, one of our developers suggested we make it about "discontinuities search and smoothing algorithms in 3D vector arrays", but for some reason it just didn't seem appropriate. So instead, this time we would like to discuss ... well ... time! Mission #3: TimescaleOne the difficult balance obstacles we face in The Universim is the concept of time, how to define it in a contextual way and what the overall speed and scale of time should be. Although we have multiple ages in the game, our goal is that they act as the building blocks for what the civilization will become when entering the Space Age and moving on to new and exciting planets. So, that said, we would like these "building block" ages to not take a ridiculous amount of time to pass through. But first, we must define time. Do we use days, months, years? This is important because time allows us to create a heartbeat, a tick, an equal passing of time that allows the planet and epicenters to evaluate their current status and make changes; the planet might decide to start heating up every beat based on environmental factors, or the epicenter might attempt to expand it's population due to priorities set by the player. However, this heartbeat has to be long enough to experience the changes, yet not too long that the time it takes to pass through time and ages isn't unreasonable. For example, on Mother Planet, we could use a 12 month system to make up a year, breaking the months into seasons (4 in total) in which we experience major temperature changes. We could say that a month takes 30 minutes, therefore allowing each season to be 1.5 hours which can be enough time to experience shifts in temperature. By this, a year would then 6 hours and if it takes a minimum of a few years to pass through the ages, well ... based on the math, it'll be quite a long time before the Space Age is seen. Community Question:Therefore, citizens, we're opening up the board to ask you for your opinion on time. Currently we have a method we will be going with as a temporary method as we continue to fine tune the system, but would like to see if someone in the community can come up with a creative and unique method. It's a bit of an abstract concept, but we know you're smart people so discuss away!

The Universim Community Labs - Mission #4Hello Universim citizens! We hope you're having a good holiday season! We've begun adding some of the core functionality into the alpha including allowing workers to begin taking on certain jobs specifically at key buildings. So today, we want to open the forums to the community to discuss this! Mission #4: Key BuildingsAs we've discussed before, key buildings are functional buildings that are built by the epicenter and can allow the epicenter to unlock additional features, gather/refine resources or even be used in requirements for research. These buildings will require different types of worker job's to operate and will be placed by the player, but constructed by the epicenter as it decides. Sticking with our goal of creating a game with many possibilities, we would like to include as many key buildings as we can that will open up different avenues of survival and research for the player to explore and cater to their play style. For example, do you want to build a tailor in the modern age in order to allow customization of clothing for your citizens, or is creating a lab to discover cures more important? Community Question:So our question is simple: what are some key buildings you can think of? How will it affect the game play? For example, a building can: - Be functional (defense tower, or a cloud generator)
- Affect an area (a park might increase the happiness of the epicenter)
- Be a requirement in research (space center is required to research space flight)
- Provide resources (farms!)
- Unlock a feature (news station unlocks an update feed for the planet)
To help, here's a little template you can follow: Building NameWorker Job RoleDescriptionOf course we don't expect you to know everything that is planned for The Universim, but use your imagination! You have all been a lot of help with our previous labs, and continue to help stir up new ideas and approaches to the game. Have fun!

Brilliant stuff. Possibly a potential for feature creep, but so far most folks are on-board with any they're doing, and cut them slack for it.
See, 22Cans, that's how it's done.

Brilliant stuff. Possibly a potential for feature creep, but so far most folks are on-board with any they're doing, and cut them slack for it. See, 22Cans, that's how it's done. It certainly is a good demonstration of how to take on suggestions from the community and how to add more to the original design, something that 22cans still implies about their own development process but it yet has to really be seen. 22cans originally had one person to mind for input, and they promptly forgot about him, then marginalised his involvement with their company by setting the actual time for when he'll get his "life-changing whatever" of Molyneuxbux and design input into requiring impossible conditions to fulfill while most of the company runs off to another game. Leagues, leagues apart. The more I see about The Universim, the more I see where Peter Molyneux and 22cans missed an opportunity to acquire big bucks and to retain their reputation by making a game worth playing, which is something they've forgotten about Populous to instead turn into EA, thinking that it is acceptable to go for the money and keep stringing the gamer along for scraps of content. Crytivo Games is indulgent towards their community and it shows. As a result, unless something catastrophic happens with the studio or key members of the team, then it looks like this game has a excellent chance to be remembered as a good representative of the god game genre.

Yes, but honestly not a lot interaction on it actually. So I see reading a little more. Well, just reading is actually the probem, respectively the cause of the lack of interaction. ( I saw your post, so no offense, heh) But really, a lot of guys don't respond. That's just sad. I remember the time when the Kickstarter was still going, there were so many people posting their ideas and such.... I really wonder.

I wonder why there are times when the people just stop with their participation. Any attempt to encourage them seems to be useless as well. I for one made many threads on the official forum and I have the feeling that I was the only one posting there, hah. I know in the case of game development the people may just be interested in informations about the development instead of anything else. But still, whyyyyy?
