INTRODUCING CELL SYSTEM
Greetings Creators!
In today’s update, we are introducing The Universim Cell System. The Crytivo Games team designed the Cell System with customization in mind, allowing users to expand and evolve Epicenters, upgrade buildings, and customize cities. Click here for more insight into our development process on Trello.
What is a Cell?
In the Universim, cities grow around the Epicenter. As the population of a city increases, buildings are constructed outward from the nearest Epicenter. Invisible cells around the Epicenter define where houses, buildings, and props can be placed.
During each Era, cells will spawn around the Epicenter and your cities will grow dynamically with the population. During the Stone Age, Stone Age Huts will begin to appear around the Epicenter as the population expands. Cells will continue to spawn to keep up with your population growth. For example, one cell might be capable of holding three Stone Age Huts, which can in turn house a total population of ten. In this case, for a population of fifty, five total cells will be generated. If the population increases to seventy-five, the system will spawn three more cells.
When you reach a new Era, the cells will begin to upgrade, starting with the cells closest to the Epicenter and working outward. So, if you advance from the Stone Age to the Medieval Era, you will notice the buildings closest to the Epicenter begin to change from Stone Age buildings into Medieval buildings. The change will expand outward until every building has been upgraded. During this period of transition, no new cells will appear. When all of the buildings spawned from that Epicenter have been upgraded, cells will begin to spawn again.
As you advance to each new Era, your buildings will become larger and able to house larger populations. While a cell with three Stone Age Huts might only be able to hold a population of ten, a cell with three Medieval Houses can hold as many as fifty, a cell with two Modern Skyscrapers can hold up to 100, and so forth.
Cells will be directly affected by environmental factors, such as weather and disease. During cold winters, the population might stop growing or even decrease in cells without proper shelter and heating. Diseases will spread from cell to cell, infecting and sometimes killing portions of the population. The speed at which a disease spreads and its mortality rate will vary based on the type of disease and the technologies and protections you have in place.
Now, let’s take a closer look at the make-up of an individual cell. Each cell is made up of three types of nodes:
Living Building Nodes contain homes, such as Stone Age Huts, Medieval Houses, and Modern Skyscrapers.
Research Item Nodes contain items and buildings that you learned to create by researching a new technology. For example, in the Stone Age, when you learn to create fire, fires will begin to appear in these nodes.
Cosmetic/Strategic Nodes contain objects that can be unlocked through the Cell Customizer Menu. This menu will allow you to customize each individual cell to your liking. Using the Cell Customizer Menu, you will be able to place strategic items, such as Monuments that increase the Happiness of nearby Nuggets, along with cosmetic items, such as gardens and artwork, which improve the look of your cities. As you progress from Era to Era, more customization options will become available.
We hope you enjoyed this preview of the Cell System. Here at Crytivo, our goal is to keep everything in the Universim as moddable and customizable as possible so that, down the road, our fans will be able to create and share their own content. We look forward to seeing what you build!
