Thanks to 13thGeneral retweeting a tweet from @kickstarter this came to my attention. I wonder if this is something worth following. What do you guys think?

Worth watching? Sure. Worth backing? I dunno.
It's very "Minecraft Clone" meets survival co-op/city management amalgamation. Could turn out interesting, could just be a complete mess. There's plenty of time to see how it develops, though.

Yea, that's what I got from it too and I like Minecraft but just can not find the time to put in the effort to really build anything. I have also not been able to get into the survival movement.

Honestly, when I first tweeted about it, I had just seen it and only briefly skimmed the pitch and such - on my phone, no less - and it seemed interesting. After looking into it more thoroughly, although I still think it sounds like an interesting concept, there are doubts . The artwork is nice, but the demo gameplay graphics look like resources from Deer Hunter slapped into the Minecraft engine, and held up loosely with a SimCity resources database. I'd much prefer to see them do something a little more original in those regards; there are already too many Minecraft clones and badly hacked together Unity rips.
Certainly worth following though. I follow more game development than I actually support or play; as I get older, I find the process is more interesting and intriguing to me than it use to be.

It seems to me they have set their funding goal quite low. Let's see if they get it together. I foresee many problems with the development.

We've seen, time and again, devs either setting the goal too low, or astronomically high, and it backfires almost unequivocally every time. Especially with ambitious concepts.

It's worth noting that, as far as I know, most of those ambitious goals have already been achieved. The kickstarer funds are for deeper simulation & polish. The original game/prototype was developed with a grant; they're bringing it to kickstarter to turn it into a consumer game.

Their pitch video mentions 1000 types of plants and animals forming an eco system. Reading a bit further down the page it says so far they've accomplished 5. That leaves an awful lot of eco system to be developed. In fact it leaves pretty much all of it. To accomplish all of that with the tiny amount of funds they hope to gather seems at the very least far fetched. Of the 100000 they hope to raise only a small part is reserved for developing the eco system that is supposed to form the core of the game. It sounds like an impossible mission to me. Albeit a very interesting one.

yeah, I'm doubting more and more it'll be successful, or even that they'll be able to accomplish what they promise, even if it receives the funding they're asking for. So I'm probably not going to fund this one.

Well, Eco reached their funding goal with still 17 days to go on their campaign. What do you guys think, should I start collecting and posting more information about it?

Thanks to 13thGeneral retweeting a tweet from @kickstarter this came to my attention. I wonder if this is something worth following. What do you guys think? Ooo, a Big-10 school. Was the team composed of ecological scientists and mathematicians or football players? This game will crash and burn, if the ecosystem model is not realistic. Without more information about the logic and mathematics behind the ecosystem model and the qualifications of the team that designed the ecosystem model, I would not give these fellows one cent. At the risk of alienating any friends that I have left on this forum, I think Kickstarter campaigns to develop any kind of computer program should be examined closely, much like one would examine and judge a televangelist. If I was a writer who had a Kickstarter to finance a hard back publication of my $0.99 Amazon e-book, then the prospective funder could purchase a copy of the e-book to determine if the book deserved formal publication. With a computer program Kickstarter, the supporter must have faith that the development team has the ability to do what was promised. I do not know these people from Adam.
