Former Microsoft and Fable development director Peter Molyneux has launched his next game. Godus Wars, an extension of the existing god game Godus, aims to mix tactical real-time strategy gameplay with elements of the god game genre, according to its Steam product page.
In the game, available now free for existing Godus owners or by itself on Steam Early Access for $15, you control one of four deities. Each has their own specific playstyle, abilities, and powers. You can do battle across seven continents (not all are available in the Early Access version and some are offered as paid add-ons), featuring "hundreds" of levels that can be sculpted to your liking.
Developer 22Cans says this is one of the principal parts of the appeal of Godus Wars. "Maps that change as you play with unique deformable land--no two battles will be the same," the developer said.
Godus Wars will also feature 50 different unit types, including archers and catapults, while players can use eight different "God Powers" to lay waste to their enemies or protect their people.
For the Early Access version of Godus Wars, however, there is only a limited amount of content. This was outlined on the game's Steam page:
One of the deity opponents is Bryan Henderson, the man promised a life-changing prize by Molyneux but who was left in the cold.
Godus Wars will replace Godus on Steam sometime in the future. For lots more on Godus Wars, you can read this blog post from Molyneux. Additionally, a FAQ is available here.
Molyneux recently spoke to Eurogamer about the controversy surrounding Godus, saying it was "one of the most bruising moments of my life."
