The steam chart numbers for GODUS Wars are really poor so far:
steamcharts.com/app/422420
I expected given the free access for existing GODUS players of whom there were 1000s on debut for that game that they would get a decent uptake. I guess many people are disengaged and don't know about it. Whatever the case it doesn't say much for new sales of the game.

In the microtransaction about-face post Simon gave, he claimed that they had given Godus Wars as a free update to hundreds of thousands. I was quite surprised. I didn't know so many had purchased Godus on PC... maybe he inadvertently confirmed that Godus Wars was already on it's way to mobile (no surprise, given that the last 4-5 months was supposedly a "PC Sprint"). In any case, if his numbers are accurate, it makes these even more dismal. Compounded by the fact that they didn't bother to hype Godus Wars at all and ended up announcing it the same day they released it, who knows why, these numbers are in no way surprising. Odd behaviour considering how pleased they were to release it.

Steamspy has a chart showing total users at 230k or so steamspy.com/app/422420and actual players at 2200 so far or 1% of owners could be bothered to install and try again. I would be willing to bet those numbers are inflated even by people needing to play 5 minutes to review the game. along with other fascinating data like the way playtime is crashing after a few days already, the game is obviously no good in spite of the positive reviews from staff.

Odd behaviour considering how pleased they were to release it. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that over 100,000 people owned a copy of PC GODUS given the sales they were running forever at $5 a copy. The problem with those sales as I pointed out at the time is that they cannibalised future sales for a small sugar hit. So now a lot off people who might have bought GODUS Wars for $12 wont because they got GODUS for $5.
As for the mobile release it is both inevitable and would probably help the development of the PC game to be honest. They should outsource it and just get it over with. As long as PC GODUS takes the lead and the design isn't compromised I don't mind what shit they port to mobile.

As long as they build it PC focused first, as promised, I completely agree.

Odd behaviour considering how pleased they were to release it. The no hype or even announcement for any time before the actual release is another thing that makes me think they were TRYING for failure. Either that or they were trying get back inside the proverbial building before the entire business district laughs itself apart when one of the "moneybags of success" oinks. They certainly didn't give themselves much time between people being able to buy anything and when it cratered, so it couldn't have been for money reasons. Edit: On a more personal amusement note, how more people are playing a nearly 20 year-old CRPG: steamcharts.com/cmp/38400,422420

Well considering the lack of promotion. Thats probably because no one knows about the new game.
I cant help but wonder if the lack of announcements and hype were due to the developers feeling ashamed at the current state of the game

I think they thought the backlash would have been bigger if they had hyped it.

I think they thought the backlash would have been bigger if they had hyped it. I don't think 22cans would have needed to hype or promote Godus Wars at all - a simple announcement of "Combat Update is now done!" would have sufficed. Instead, there was Godus Wars, the state of which itself explains why there wasn't even announcement or updates for some time. Surprise was exactly the reaction 22cans desired, and obviously not in any good way.

Not bad. If you look at the latest itteration of one of my favorite old times games, G and GW are not doing so bad... Basically a patch on a patch on a patch. But keeps gettin sold as a complete new game: steamcharts.com/app/278550These guys been to the same school of overpromise (still waiting for a ton of trains for v3.0) Coincedentally, the only other (Steam)forum I have ever been perm banned on (for asking for what was promised)
