Anyone else pick this up? I have never played the Total War games before so it is diffidently a steep learning curve but worth it. I started with undead and the first battle is taking back your capitol. It drops you right in the middle of a massive battle. It was a little confusing at first. I assume the Empire battle is probably the more starter battle and might explain things a little more. I am also enjoying the over-world control and building up of my leader.

I got the game too, it's awesome! Been a fan of the Total War series since Shogun 1. Vampire Counts is actually probably the hardest campaign to play, but I love their units!

Yea I am an old school Undead and Chaos table top fan. Those were the armies I collected which is why I wanted to try them first.

I liked shogun, got burnt on medieval, I liked Rome, got burnt by medieval 2 and Empire, I liked Shogun 2 and got burnt by Rome 2. So I promised I'd not buy Warhammer until it was well vetted. So I'm interested to read about what you think.

Hardly, I agree with your list entirely! So far, Warhammer looks like a winner though. The only thing I find a bit difficult so far is managing spells and abilities. To do it right, I find myself pausing battles more frequently than I did in the previous games. But they totally nailed the visuals and atmosphere, and haven't made the campaign as convoluted as they did with Empire.

I have heard Total Warhammer did a lot more things right then the older versions. But I have not played them so I can not comment. I just wonder how long it is till we get Total Warhammer 40k.

I do have to wonder if it could work. I know when I played 40K was small unit tactics. Has the current game gone more large scale units? But on the other side I would love to see Titans and Whirlwind tanks on the field. Maybe Total Warhammer 20K(?) The Horus Heresy. That was when the chapters fielded larger units was it not?

Imperial Guard, Orks and Tyranids use larger regiments. And in the fluff of 40K larger squads also happen. But even aside from that I can see it work. Imagine the sight of squads of 5 to 10 Space Marines facing off against hordes of Tyranids. This is much closer to the 40K fluff actually than what you see in the tabletop game.

Very true. That or vs ork hoards so I imagine they could pull it off easy. For this one I can not wait for the skaven as a playable race. That is my current favorite race.

If I can find where I saved the replay, I'm going to rewatch a classic Dwarf vs Orc match. After placement of our forces, I had my grudge throwers target their general. First shot hit him between the eyes. "The enemy general has been injured." After that, it was just stumping out to mop up the few units that held their ground. It brought back memories of my own tabletop days.
