I finally got fed up enough with my laptop's internal keyboard malfunctioning. I've been experiencing the issue that at random moments it starts typing eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee all on its own and will do so ad infinitum unless I rattle (or sometimes bang) on it. Sometimes that would even cause the computer to hang. So I finally got annoyed enough to go and look for a solution.
First thing you'll notice when you search online is that there are many many people who have found themselves in similar situations and have asked online for advice about it at all kinds of places. First link I opened, a guy says he wants to disable his laptop's internal keyboard and asks how to go about it. First answer he got, some retard asking "why?". Don't you just find that so bloody annoying? I do! Someone asks for help for something and you know how to help then give it, don't go crapping up the place asking why like a little twit. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of occasions where why is an appropriate question, but this is not one of them. If somebody wants to do something as specific as disabling his internal keyboard you can be damn sure he has a valid reason for it. Anyway, I'm ranting, just had to get that off my chest.
So there's a lot of pages you can find on the internet talking about the subject. Funnily enough most of them seem to go the same way.
A popular answer is to take the keyboard out of your laptop. Yes, that would seem like a very sensible idea. It had occurred to me before I decided to look for a solution online. The problem is, when I take out my laptop's internal keyboard, the bloody thing doesn't power up at all anymore. Don't ask me why. It's a Dell computer in case you're wondering. So that solution seems to work for some people but did me no good.
Another popular answer is to go into Device Manager and "disable" the driver. Lots and lots of people come up with this suggestion. I don't know how they would go about it though, because for the keyboard there is no such thing as an option to "disable" it, only to uninstall it completely. Unfortunately uninstalling it completely is not a solution in this case, because every time the computer boots up Windows would automatically reinstall the appropriate driver and you would have to go through the whole circus all over again. I did see someone mention and provide instructions for making it so Windows does not automatically install the driver, so you could do that, but then if you would plug in a new device the driver would not be installed, so not really a good solution either.
I've seen some people mention a program called keyboard locker. Seriously? I don't think you've grasped the concept of the question there mate. That would disable all the keyboards, also the external one. Completely useless suggestion.
There were some people who mentioned going into the BIOS. Honestly, I haven't checked this option, but they might be right. It would certainly make sense.
The solution I have decided upon is one that was also mentioned by some people which is to purposefully install an inappropriate driver for the internal keyboard. You know what? It works! Computer rebooted and internal keyboard is not working. Neither is the touchpad by the way, but that doesn't bother me because I wasn't using it anyway.
Finally I can use my computer unencumbered by the bloody e. I hope it stays that way and that I won't discover it's back to the original driver when my computer is rebooted again.
