So anyone else out there playing it? I know I am one of those too old people out wondering around like a zombie staring at my phone. But I use to play and watch Pokemon as a kid. It scratches that achievement got to get them all itch I have and gives me an excuse to get out and walk more. I am looking forward to when they add PvP to it and more different pokemon so I am not allays seeing just Pidgeys and Rattatas. LOL

LOL was never into Pokemon, but have installed it to see what all the hype was about. It's ok, I like the augmented reality bit and the fact it makes you walk. Was actually thinking of trying to get my 4.5year old interested, more for exercise for me than to get him out as he needs no help there.

My apartment building is apparently very abundant in Pokemon according to my brother's friend. Haven't had enough time to walk around there, myself, though. Wouldn't be surprising considering my luck in games.

I love Pokemon GO. It's a very different game to the old classics, but it's still entertaining. I normally avoid free-to-play titles, but the combat mechanics at gyms is nicely implemented to reduce the 'pay to win' element. There is defintely no paywall that I'm aware of.
A combination of Pokemon Go and Fitbit is keeping me active. I've been aiming for 20k steps per day and it's tough but very achievable, especially when you've got Pokestops to hit. Having said all this, I am reaching a point in the game where it's losing some of the novelty. Catching new Pokemon is the buzz of the game for me, and I'm getting bored of seeing the same 'common' Pokemon constantly popping up. As I gradually complete my Pokedex, new Pokemon are becoming less frequent. There are also a couple of areas where it feels like a bit of a grind. If you want to evolve a Pokemon, for example, you have to catch at least 5-10 of the same kind to save up enough 'candy' to do so. For some of a the rarer Pokemon this could be painful.

It really depends on the pokemon. Some are not that strong and not really of any use. To evolve the Magikarp, a very weak pokemon to Gyarados, a low end upper pokemon you need 500 candies. So your looking at having to get at least 100 Magikarp. Then some more to level up the Gyarados.
Thank being said once they get past the releasing the game in the rest of the countries and start putting out content updates the game may pick up again.

I got to the point where I need to use a gym, but I quite honestly cannot be bothered to go and sit outside (or inside) my local church and I don't commute so that rules out the gym at the train station. I wish the range of the gym was bigger so I could play from my house. I also notice some stops appear to benefit some more than others (I don't drink but there is one at my local pub). I've collected plenty walking the dog but hanging out at gyms is just impractical. Maybe I'm to old and should not be playing. I did pick up shadow of mordor so maybe I'll find time to sit on my arse and play that instead a lol.

Although I've never played a Pokémon game before, I started playing it casually the 2nd week after release - mostly because my gaming friends were. It took another week before I noticed people at work playing it during breaks; the fountain pond in front of our office building became a Pokestop. A few guys at work asked if i played, and inquired about it (they know I'm a gamer) asking what it was all about. They soon joined the fold. After that, about the forth week in, I introduced my wife to it - and she's hooked now, too. There was a local organized Pokémon event downtown where they estimated almost a thousand people attened (with zero incidents or complaints from locals or business) and they're planning on another one next week. I'm still playing fairly casually, some days I don't even open it, though on the weekends we've been taking walks and drives around the area to play. I think it'll continue to lose players over the next few months until plateauing with steady fans. It's assumed (based on comment from the Niantic) that sometime in Sept-Nov they're going to finally activate trading - either through a "friends" list or some kind of in-game auction house - and possibly local one-on-one battle challenges, as well as additional Pokémon (Epics). So, if that does occur, it'll see a small resurgence through the new year, and again dropping off after the holidays.

Yea. It is not like there is a lot to it. But as I said for me I am a collector and that appeals to me. That and the challenge of finding a new pokemon. Like earlier today I got my Geodude I needed to evolve him to Graveler. I just wish I had a pokestop here at work or even would find something a little more often. But During my two breaks I just walk around the outside of the building for the exercise and to add some distance to my eggs.

I'm heartened that this game is being regularly maintained and updated. I suppose this is one of the advantages of this type of free-to-play for freeloaders like myself - the developer has to keep content trickling through if they're going to hold people's interest, and so far none of the new content is behind paywalls.
I am curious about the business model for games like this. I would have happily paid an upfront purchase price for this game. If they introduce ads and offer a one-time fee to remove them, I'd do it. I'm deeply disinclined to pay for in-game microtransactions, but even on that side of things, the game offers appropriate and reasonably-priced stuff. Most of the items are expendable (e.g. pokeballs) but some of them offer decent permanent upgrades, like more backpack space or more Pokemon storage. This game has nailed a non-exploitative approach which I believe is what Peter hoped for but spectacularly failed to achieve with Godus.
