If you have any question about Deisim, how I make it, design decisions or any other thing feel free to ask it here

Well, my very first question to you would be, what do you do in your profession?
And my second question is, at what moment did you decide to start working on a game of your own and what was it that made you make that decision?

I work as a java developer. So i already had some skills in general development before.
I started working on a game 2 years ago when i was a bit bored of my job. I wanted to make something different so i tried to make something with unity.
The story should have ended here but one day i purchased the HTC Vive and it was a blast. I tried to launch a small prototype of god game that i made before in VR and this was really cool so i decided to continue the adventure and to release it.

So why a god game as opposed to any of the other myriad style games there are?

I was nostalgic about black and white and populous and looked for a new god game to play and i realized that not many games of a that style existed on steam. It sounded also like a good idea because the coding part of that kind of game is more important than the graphic part. So I decided to make one myself to play it.

So between what your idea about the game was originally when you started the project and where you are with it now, how far along the way to completion do you think you are right now?
Have your ideas about what the game would be changed along the way, or are you still clinging on to your original idea and trying to get it just as you had imagined it?

I think 70% of the game is done now At first I imagined the game like this : You played very short sessions where you tried to build a world able to sustain a maximum of humans and eventually all of them died because of something. From game to game you learned of your mistakes and was able to push humanity to the next step. This concept was really cool in my mind and sounded also realistic compared to my resources. Of course one of the first thing the players requested was to be able to save their world and optimizations to be able to build very large worlds so the game is really different now with up to 2000 humans doing stuff in virtually infinite worlds. ^^ This is the reason i launched my game very quick in early access. Fail fast and be able to quickly change the direction of the game. For now Deisim is still the only VR god game that allow you to build your own world like this thanks to early access.

I guess someone has to be first. You're pioneering an area of VR gameplay many people desire (IMO).

So if the terrain is virtually endless, arw you using some form of procedural generation?
Is the terrain stored locally? How much memory goes into the terrain?

Hi myron , you said you had influences like populous? Have you ever played "from dust"? Now that is a god game that was made for VR before VR was a thing. If that had been available it would of been incredible to play, wish they had built on that. Some great ideas.

The user is creating the world by himself but with the way the game is designed it would be easy to me to generate random worlds like in Populous. The size of the save file is very small for now. By example this world made by a player is contained in a file of 471.61 KB because i don't save the state of any small thing in the game. If the player put a forest here i only save the fact that a forest is on this position and every load the forest may be a bit different.

It is more a puzzle solver game as I see but it could be very cool in VR indeed.

I played it but unfortunately after a few levels my laptop wasn't able to properly run it.

Are there any limitations to the map size a player could create? I know you said virtually infinite worlds, but what does that mean in reality? Also, have you considered using some sort of algorithm to make the coast lines less straight? (think Civilization)

There is no limit to the map but for now game struggle when you have around 2k humans.
There is already a system in place to deal with borders and generate them dynamically. My issue is to find good terrain tiles to make it look better.

My issue is to find good terrain tiles to make it look better. How many different terrain tiles are you using currently? Are you also looking to expand the amount of different tiles? Are you combining tiles with other things on them or do they form a whole together? Meaning, for example, if you have a tile with a forrest, is that one thing or are you using a grass tile and combining that with a forest layover?

Yes it had levels where you unlocked abilities as you went, the last level was actually a sandbox where you did whatever you wanted.
