Who plays? Taken me a long time to give it a proper go and now playing it loads (it helps my son is loving it!).

Was very interested initially but still haven't given it a go. For such a simple game I find it (single player survival) really addictive, sometimes soothing just mining blocks, sometimes I get genuinely scared strangely enough, I love the creative side to. It really does cover a lot of my games playability criteria. Don't find PvP appealing either. If you get a couple of minutes watch one of these, the guys on the server build some incredible stuff. I'll post a couple of pictures of my very basic building if anyone is interested

I've played a ton of minecraft. I have a Vive now that allows me to play it in VR, a whole different level of amazing! I find it very interesting to see what designers do when trying to copy Minecraft's formula. Which aspects do they think make it work, and which ones actually do make it work. Copy-cats make for very interesting design case-studies.

The creative aspect of it is what I find alluring. Campaigning not at all.

The creative aspect of it is what I find alluring. Campaigning not at all. I play single player survival, you get most of the challenge from mobs without the chance of getting annoying with multiplayer "raiding" and PvP doesn't appeal to me. I understand there are all sorts of servers with multiplayer and differing rules. I could probably do a co-op if there was that sort of game.

I used to play it quite a bit years ago, but haven't touched it in some time. Playing in VR would be interesting though.

Every time I look into Minecraft I get confused. Which is the edition I would need if I just want to build stuff and not be bothered with other people? What system requirements are there for that?

My system is over 5 years old now, it was mediocre when I built it. i7 8gb entry level graphic card. Minecraft is not a resource intensive game as far as I can tell, I run it on an old laptop too. I think the more you build the more it may struggle but i’ve not had any problems so far. I even manage a hack to play a shared LAN game with my son. There is a standard java version and a windows 10 version with achievements, I think you can buy java and get a windows 10 copy? 1.12.2 appears to be the latest version and that comes with survival/creative(single player), server connections and the option of realms(cloud hosted share with friends “world”) I think I paid £17.99 for it which was less than Lego worlds and much better!

One other thing that I have found great value for money is the steam controller, never been a fan of console controllers before but it has a touch pad too and i’ve Literally replaced my mouse with it too!

My New player guide to Minecraft (bit badly cropped and a little long as still learning to use Expression Screen Capture).

I don't like all the critters hopping around. See you're using Intel HD Graphics 530. Though those are internal graphics it's still way ahead of my stuff. I really like building things and being creative (from my lazy chair) so I definitely remain interested in this. Do you think you could do a video about a from scratch build in a non-flat world in creative mode? Or rather a series of videos coz I doubt that a ten minute video would show much. What you're building would be up to you.

The machine I did these recordings on is my work laptop (shhh) it’s the newest pc I have, but have been playing on a separate machine and just copying save games over from home pc for screen capture.
