It's not spoken 22cans. That's only short for 20 Toucans. The Toucan is a bird with a large bill / beak (don't know the right word - german: Schnabel). Large bill - lots of blah blah (much useless talk).

I think it was originally concepted to be a development studio that would produce 22 games/social experiments. I think I remember hearing that from PM in an interview he conducted shortly after 22Cons was founded. Curiosity was the first such experiment probably geared towards what lengths people might go to to see what was inside that block and how long their attention span would hold out.
What kind of social experiment Godus is (aside from maybe how much crap can we make people swallow and still stay in business) remains to be seen.
On one hand we could be in for another 20 of these awful experiments. On the other (and more likely) Godus will be its swan song

Way back when I had some hope that the game I was reading about on Kickstarter was worth Kickstarting and despite the fact that even my 5 year old daughter has become bored and given up with Curiousity after a short period where we were all playing it, I thought the name 22cans came from PM's stated desire to change the way the gaming industry worked. In my dreams, I imagined he had sat down with the other founder(s) and drawn up a plan of 22 things that they could do to change the gaming industry. At the time, I didn't think one of them was "We CAN make a mobile game that doesn't screw the customer into spending big bucks to be playable".
As I say, it was back in the day. Hence my disappointment with godus. Nothing worse than a messiah with feet of clay...
