They found a replacement for belief collection that will even work in lategame. www.22cans.com/what-are-we-working-on-right-now/They're going to add Fountains which you can click every X minutes to increase happiness and then they'll be on a cooldown. Happiness drains steadily depending on the number of your followers. (So it will be hard or even impossible to keep happiness constantly high without clicking buildings every X minutes...) Its hard to balance belief generation (at some point you have so much that it doesn't matter any longer) but this mechanic could easily balanced in a way that even in the late game you'll have to do this stupid time-management and click game. - Because as opposed to Belief there is a maximal limit and it gets constantly drained. Theres absolutely no thinking or strategy required in clicking a building every X minutes. I officially give up any hope, they intend to add further mobile mechanics which are also very easy to balance in a way that you even have to bother with them in lategame.

Want to bet if happiness will drain in offline progression? That way you'd need to log in daily to spray your followers.

You can't go to people and say stop making millions of dollars and be good. That's what capitalism is all about. The first step of our real journey starts today. Sorry to be so cyptic Godus is not free to play, its more a reworking of how player invest in there world I think its misleading to call it free to play. Its free to download on mobile cos thats what that commuity wants we have risisted all the toxic elements of monetization Your totally right!!!! now we have the core mechanics working again our focus will be much more on Choices and consequence. Does that not become a problem - as soon as the business model becomes the design, that's a problem? No, because the biggest responsibility of a designer, surely, is to think about the money side.

I am not surprised. They just seem to want to try to hide the F2P but still have a F2P. Give it up, we know what the mechanics are, I bet many like myself know first hand from having played F2p and non F2p and decided years ago, that F2p pretty much is not our cup of tea. Bully for those it is, but I never would have backed it, or sorry, even bought it on Steam.

Bully for those it is, but I never would have backed it, or sorry, even bought it on Steam. There are some good F2P Titles out there too. I don't think thats the case for Mobile, but Dota, Leage of Legends, Smite, Team Fortress 2, Path of Exile and others are pretty good games. Even some Flash games are out there that are well done, like Enigmata 2. But there is a difference on why they can be good: They have solid, good Gameplay with basically everything unlockable through a decent (but not overwhelming premade route) effort and only selling different types of Skins, Soundpacks, more Bank Space and so on. The Core Game is in itself already good, players can invest hours and get their share of fun out of it. Godus on the other hand, is, like Dungeon Keeper Mobile, Pay to Play.

I would call openTTD freeware instead of F2P. There is plenty of great free or open source software (like firefox) or games. Dwarf fortress is probably the most complex game that exists.
And you're right the F2P titles you mentioned are fair and pretty good.

It sounds like 22Cans is retooling the Artifact system from Black&White. Everything old is new again, except for, you know, the actual fun that comes from playing games.
To the good old days

I think that 22Cans right now needs to come out with and official statement regarding whether or not they are going to completely split off the mobile branch of Godus from the desktop branch of Godus so that desktop players could get an actual game that has none of the obvious mobile/browser game mechanics. By official statement I don't mean a post written by Monkeythumbz or Matthew Allen but an actual press release or official announcement on the website of 22Cans. The statement should describe in a detailed and clear way how 22Cans sees the future for the mobile branch of Godus and how it sees the future for the desktop branch of Godus and most importantly it should describe thoroughly in which ways these two branches will be linked or not and which elements they will share. I'm confused by the communications that I've seen coming from 22Cans on the steam forum the backer forum and this forum. It feels as though they are hinting that they are going to split off the desktop branch from the mobile branch but they're not coming out and actually saying it. I would like to see confirmation on this. If you do decide to provide us with an official statement then please don't do it in the form of a video message from Peter Molyneux or a written message for that matter. I'm so sick of Peter Molyneux that I can't watch any video of him without constantly thinking what a scheming lying son of a bitch he is with every word he utters. So I guess it'd be best to have a written statement signed by 22Cans instead of anyone in particular.

...it'd be best to have a written statement signed by 22Cans instead of anyone in particular. exactly, enough with sleazy vague verbal sort of answers which are shown to be pure BS with the next interview.

So, now players will have to log in periodically to water the plants? Good grief. for $24.99 worth of gems you can get the vacation plant sitter which logs into your apartment and waters the plants for 2 weeks. for an additional 9.99 the plant sitter shall also sing motivational and empowering work songs to the plants. (offer not valid on PC until all the kickstarter backers go fuck themselves)

I'm waiting for daily login bonus in Godus. You know it's coming because no reinvention of invest to play would be complete without it.

I can't believe this, but I really should know better. Complete & utter tripe. At what point does someone assigned to completing tasks like these jump & say "Oh come on are you mad? Are we trying to turn this game into Scanners & keep doing stuff like this until the players heads all explode?" It has now become a god given (;-}) fact that they REALLY don't want anyone to "play" this! Maybe the point of this is to numb out people so bad, that they turn into robots that keep hitting the buy gems & stickers button over & over until they drop dead.
