Wow, this is a really interesting thread to hear where you all came up with your nicknames from. I am curious to see where Monkeythumbz got his from. I have monkey-like thumbs. I was given the nickname by David Stephen, who heads up Feral Interactive, back in '03 or '04 in my first gig in the industry, back when I was still doing QA.

I was watching that excellent documentary where Angelina Jolie reveals her secret identity as an incredible computer hacker and she's a member of a secret computer hacking club. They all have fancy code-names like ZERO COOL, CRASH OVERRIDE, ACID BURN etc. I imagined myself as a member of their secret club and what my own awesome hacking moniker would be. CRUMPY SIX is what I came up with, though LUMPY GRUMPUS was also on the shortlist. That's probably my favourite documentary!!

Cool Beans. No picks of my thumbs though, I slammed on in the door when we first got here in April and it still has this big dark spot on it. I am thinking I might lose that nail, but it has not fallen off, just looks gross.

I used a different nick online for the longest time, but after some online drama/stalking issues I started fresh with Rhamnusia, which is another name for Nemesis, the spirit of divine retribution in Greek mythology. The fact that I chose the spirit of divine retribution says a lot about my frame of mind at the time hahaha.

I have so many, but this one is pretty obvious. I love Stargate and Claudia Black was awesome as Vala and Qetesh. Not too mention our kitties share the names of our handles over here as well. Eeeek! Claudia's voice acting was absolutely stunning in Dragon Age: Origins! I’d marry her if she’d have an aged and spent bastard such as myself.

I can totally understand him wanting to be open about himself for a work related avatar. The question is does he use another one elsewhere? I learned the hard way never to reveal the real me online unless in a controlled setting.

I used to keep that stuff under wraps quite a bit as well, but in recent years I've kind of just shrugged about it all and not gotten myself too concerned. Even my Facebook is somewhat professional. I post semi-personal stuff I suppose, but never anything I'd be worried about others seeing. I'm a bit of an open book, for better or worse.

I had an ugly falling out with a few at an old forum I was on and found myself having my handle and real life stuff being cyber stalked. It creeped me out, because they know everything about me so I changed that handle and use multiple ones and never give out my real info to most anyone. I also like having a handle on open boards so that if you do make friends with someone you can "gift" them the pleasure of your real name.

Mine's the name of a D&D character from the 80's I played. Earl Parvisjam is actually the (self-proclaimed and made up) Earl of Parvisjam in public. He's the 3rd removed nephew of a minor deposed Duke. I patterned him off Don Quixote and he fantasized, obsessed, and pretended to be a knight on a quest. The story opened up with him and his best friend starting their quest for fame and glory(fleeing a peasant uprising where they were killing anyone with noble blood). Throughout his adventures, the one defining factor was that the universe had a soft spot for him.
One time, he was lured into a fist fight to protect the honor of a farmer's daughter. The ruffians drugged him before the fight and he was staggering when he got into the ring. After taking several punches from the lout, Earl got in a last minute uppercut. It was an insanely lucky blow that knocked the guy out and completely changed the outcome of the story. (Rolled 06 with an 8% chance of knocking the guy out using old AD&D rules)
Then, there was that time an assassin killed the father of Earl's new patron at a celebration. The ruffian fled across rooftops and Earl gave chase in full Plate Armor. Somehow, he chased the man down after leaping several buildings (never once rolled above 6 on d20). Or, the time he attacked the pirate captain and his men on the docks rather than retreat and plan a defense. One lucky blow and the captain was dead, his men standing around dumbstruck. (A lucky 20 attack roll and maxed out damage. We played with natural 20 being double damage crit back then)
All in all, Earl's someone I have always wished I could be; delusional in the right ways, caring without weakness, and willing to do what's necessary regardless of the consequences.
