...that the phrase "I took an arrow to my knee" is an old Scandinavian proverb meaning "I fell in love and got married". So all those Nords stopped roaming around and have gone into service of Holds for the sake of their families.

Interesting, hadn't heard that part of the reference yet.
Makes sense though.

That the word Tzar isn't russian, but a Bysanthenian shortening of the word caesar ("tsezar", not "kezar")?

Did you know that people in Northern Ireland are generally extremely friendly?

...that Russians don't use ear swabs often? In Soviet Union ear swabs were quite uncommon (like most deficit consumables). But our chemical industry was one of world's best (if not the best, with all the resources put in it). So now in RUssia we get rid of ear wax using hydrogen dioxide. It feels like small explosions inside your ear.

You can always try it out if you're not born with dry earwax which doesn't require cleaning at all.

... and in the UK a common GP statement is don't put anything smaller than your elbow into your ear!
.. and in other regional locations ear syringing (or as it is now micro suction) is perceived as a normal bi-year medical treatment, like going to the dentist for a checkup.

...that "do not cross the beams" is most likely is a homage to Frank Herbert's Dune series?
In Dune, Holtzman shields stopped all the particles moving faster than velocity set in the shield's settings. Personal shields set this speed somewhere between 6 to 9 cm per minute to let the shield wearer breathe, and vehicle (mostly starships') shields used even lower maximum speeds.
But there was a nice side effect to it. Lasguns, shooting powerful beam of particles moving with the speed of light made the shield generators resonate and caused nuclear chain reaction in either shield generators, lasgun, or both. That was the main reason lasgun usage was heavily restricted (due to shields being very common and result being unpredictable), most ranged weapons became useless and swordfight got the new dawn.
Also, Holtzman shields are predecessors of almost all energy shields in sci-fi. AND the most detailed ones.

It sounds like Ghostbusters to me.
Also, 6 to 9 cms per minute is pretty damn slow. Don't breathe too quickly. Slomo swordfights ftw.

... that Russia before Revolutions was an Imperia (female of Imperium), not an Empire? The word "Empire" came from the evolution in latin-based languages. Therefore, the word "empire" is a heritage of Western Imperium Romanum which now constitutes most of the Western Europe.
Meanwhile, in Russian language Imperium became a foreign, borrowed word from the Bysanthemum, another Imperium Romanum. And as Rus was estabilished (by taking advantage of a slaughter in Great Novgorod between local families) just to trade with (and occasionally raid) Constantinople or, as we called it, Tzargrad (the city of Caesar), the diplomatical connections became tighter and tighter. After the Imperium crumbled, it was the Rus who has taken the place of successor and the title of Tzar that Ivan IV used to reinstate his power as above of merely Great Knyaz ("lord") has come from that bond and this history. It also was the reason Moskovia is one of competitors for the Third Rome title.
But I'm drifting away. as I said before, we had historical bond with Bysanthemum and we took word from them. And so, our word, Империя (Imperia), comes from different branch of evolution of the word "Imperium". And that's why we never had an Emperor, we had Imperators - that word didn't change for one and a half thousand of years.
And why Imperia? Because страна (country) and земля (land) are female in our language and associated with Mother cult.

Did you know people in Northern Ireland tend to let their dogs shit right in the middle of the pavement even if there's a perfectly suitable stretch of grass right beside it?
