Instead of getting on a boat and sailing around some islands that apparently have nothing to do with the actual game map, your followers could uncover an ancient teleportation device that was buried long ago. Call it a gift of the gods if you like. Going on adventures through the portal they discover new lands on far away planets where unknown challenges await them.

Do I perhaps sense some positive-bias towards stargate? I think a nicer way to do it and still be inkeeping with the advancement level of your people would be to find an old washed up boat, have them drag it back into town & watch them as they take it apart and try and understand how it works (preferably with a couple of failed attempts at boats that you have to rescue people from). Then once they understand how to build a boat properly, you can get them to build a harbour near some water and go on your voyages that way. Bonus effect of this is that it can be used to tease interactions with other, unknown peoples (i.e. go and find where that ship came from).

Yes that could work but then the islands you discover should be part of the actual game map otherwise it still doesn't make much sense to me. Also these ideas are not mutually exclusive.

I think both islands on your map & islands not on the map would be sensible. Having your followers discover/explore new land rather than waiting for timers is obviously a vast improvement, but it'd also be pretty cool to be able to go and visit temporary islands that have a challenge of some sort to complete, for example a volcano is exploding on the island (dynamic water == dynamic lava instead), and you've got to sculpt the land to ensure the flow doesn't hit the native's village.
Basically challenges as per what I posted as my ideas on voyages a long time ago. I'd go find the post but i've got an exam to go to in ~30 mins so I haven't quite got the time ^^

Think how much delight PM will have trying to figure out if he should make your stargates a mounting point for additional stickers...

They have time portals in the future expansion pack of the Sims. I would think that Godus would not want that far advanced technology until the player has earned that "age".

Obviously the traditional meaning, as in earnings...

"new in godus, Stargates. travel to new realms and experience unusual environments. new in godus store, hire a Tau'ri platoon to defend it against incursion by alien parasites infecting your followers. 1200 gems. duration 24hours." TBH, I would not have a problem as long as you could choose whether to have that alien incursion or not. Wow and Sims and plenty of others have stores but they have superficial items, avatars, and events that you can choose to buy, but the gameplay is fine if you choose not to. Godus could have been a great game if it was designed to be fun to play without nary ever a gem or sticker, but still had a superficial only store. Hell, if they had, I might have even spent some money on a cool alien incursion, platinmum temple or wacky God power.

Ours is not to wonder why, ours is but to do or die......seems to be how PM looks at the players.
