I'd love to but I don't have any killing god powers and my people can't swim like the astari.

FWIW, I really haven't had much of an issue w/the Astari at all – I lost 6 (after they were introduced) and have since gained 31 Astari followers. I haven't sacrificed any followers, and I've placed a handful of "god trees" near settlements, but that's about it. My progress is pretty slow due to lack of gems (I don't have enough to have bought any gifts).
On the subject of Astari, I have one Astari hut. It has 2 people in it – where are the other 29??

Well, that doesn't sound ideal. Hopefully our designers will continue to iterate the dynamic between the tribes to make it more fulfilling.

I played last night saw I had lost 30 or so followers from my settlement. Got them all replaced in time to lose another 32 and I just gave up and quite the game. I have not sacrificed any followers, but then I have not gone out of my way either to plan trees and such. I wasted what gems I had last night after the second lose. But I am not sure I want to go back to the game with that feature in it. I want to play the game the way I want not the one right way it seems to be designed with right now.

Its not ideal at all - here is one of those perfect examples where I end up wondering if someone actually got around to properly 'testing' the build at all. You'd imagine with so many of us running into this problem, it'd have been spotted in-office aswell before pushing the build out? Unless everyone in-office that does testing plays according to the pattented Molyneux playstyle that this game seems to be designed around.

We do test it. But gameplay stuff like that takes a long time to get right. We could hold on to the build until we think its perfect but we'd rather get regular, if broken, updates out.
I heard Gary talking to Peter about experiencing this problem this morning so I'm sure it's percolating through Peter's brain.

Feanix, As I have suggested before. You have, or at least had an active alpha community, that I am sure if you invited back to help test internal builds. I am not sure how hard it is to set up opt in levels on Steam and upload them. I, as a alpha tester, would love to be able to help test out you guys ideas and I am sure having more people beating out it can only help find issues and things that do not work.

I would agree to take some of the bitter taste out of the Alpha backers, allowing us exclusive access to test the PC sprint and help make the PC version better would go a long way to taking away the pain of our brief alpha testing that turned out to be Beta and Steam Early Access having as well and so no longer still exclusive as promised...while still in "alpha", which was supposed to be a perk we backed the extra cash for.
For me that would most likely get 22cans some needed goodwill from many alpha backers.

More than enough compared to none but 22cans staff. I bet more than a few come crawling out of the woodwork for that opportunity.

Looks like they're all living together in the same small beach house. Sometimes it'll show 3/2, but then it goes back down to 2/2. I even followed 2 Astari from the village once, and could see that they both had this hut as their destination. Said they were "returning home" (the god trees definitely aren't the acorn)

Just an update. I haven't played the game in a few days. In that time my happiness has gone from almost perfect to rock bottom I've lost heaps of followers.

Good work, remember one step at a time, everyone can relapse but one day I'm sure you will be ready to hit the OK button on the "Are you sure you want to uninstall Godless?"

So since my happiness bottomed out all on its own I decided to give in to the urge to sacrifice all my followers and I can see this is definitely the way to go. I was a fool I thought if I was nice to my people and planted trees for them and didn't sacrifice them they would appreciate it. Turns out they are ungrateful little shits who abandon me at the first opportunity so now I take pride in drinking their blood. This is the god that Peter M wants me to be.
