So I've been playing this game for about a day, and I have to say it's freaking amazing! This is exactly what I've been looking for. However, in my haste of advancing my civilization as quickly as I can, I obliterated the entire Astari race by bombing their city with several meteors. Will this affect gameplay? Should I worry? I used a diamond to fill up one of the now-empty Astariville houses, and i got two builders. However, they're pretty much useless as I have absolutely no sculpting and building power in Astariville. Basically, Astariville just sits there empty except for a few of my villagers, who I can't even control. What should I do?

There are some issues with how they are implemented but the basic concept is sound. To me an others at least. To me this is the start of a populous like addition to the game. I personally want enemy tribes in my would to fight. I want to be able conquer or convert them, but I will agree how they are implemented now is very half-ass. The fact you can convert them and they do nothing is stupid. We know they can have different looking followers that can inter-breed with yours and that was a feature a lot of people liked that they removed.

As it stands right now, the Astari are only there to annoy you and to give a semblance of happiness management. In the current version there is no downside to obliterating them.
I suspect (and this is speculation on my part) that the Astari will acquire unique traits and buildings in the future. Allowing you to get a specialized "happiness" follower that builds tents, circusses and similar such entertainment around your empire. They will function as a sort of entertainer follower to increase the happiness for other labourer followers around them. (Atleast, that is what their design seems to imply, again this is speculation on my part.)

That is an interesting idea. New follower types from other tribes that bring in techs. That would be a very cool idea. I do hope they do something like that. It could add another layer into you godhood of are you a purest only my original followers or a more open god. Could be interesting along those lines to be able to pick a follower type or maybe better yet as you go mold your followers down one of these paths. So if in the future when they had multiplayer battles you could capture another gods followers and integrate them into your tribe to add their looks and some of the techs they have "breed" into their followers.

But are they extinct or integrated, I've got a load of integrated astari, I did kill a few dozen with swamp and FoG but a load survived and game to my side. So yes most of us remove the astari issue but how many have removed them as a (sub)species?

So yes most of us remove the astari issue but how many have removed them as a (sub)species? For now, just obliterate them. All they do is take up vital space. I haven't managed to get any followers in the astari area yet, as I still need ore for the expansion shrine, so I can't say for certain - but I've heard the area is essentially locked out from modifying. At least for now. I also assume 22cans plans to incorporate and integrate them further in the future. I hope, other wise they're a useless and wasteful inclusion.

The ore beacons appear to go 10/20/50, and I'm still not quite at the astari - think the beacon which is underwater that others are complaining about is next beside the astari so presumably a delightful 100 ore for that one though ore is not a problem given I've got 116 mines at the moment (target is 150) I've a surplus of ore (620+) but the 6hrs to produce and time to complete beacons is annoying particularly if like me you have no farms so the frozen area where the rain of purity is uncovered means scourged land beacons are far too time consuming.
[Edit] Yes I could unlock farming, but hey this is supposed to be a god game with some level of choose for the player being spoon fed what do do and when just makes we want to avoid it where I can.
