Have people played around with dynamic water much?
I tried to split this stream into two and I kinda killed it. It seems like it should be easier to control/extend/channel the water.
Do any of our 22Cans friends want to comment? Im interested to hear what we are supposed to be able to do with it and what the limitations of the current implementation are.

I've tried, but whenever I interact with the dynamic water it just kinda fails and stops flowing. The waterfalls only work for short distances, they don't really 'extend' the range so water only goes so far and then it stops. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, but to me it feels like the water currently isn't designed to be manipulated and turned into rivers/streams.
Then ofcourse there is the problem of not being able to cross the water.

You're not alone. It's rather flimsy and not very dynamic.
And not being able to cross the water just compounds the disappointment in the feature.
Hopefully they get it working much, much better, and implement several solutions for crossing it; bridges, swimming, um... other things.

I'd imagine the water being used in various methods. For one, combine it with godly powers (for both good and evil). If you take hints from say "From Dust" - in that game the equivalent of sculpting works on water and lava aswell.
So imagine if you could instead of just shifting land, also 'take' and move water. And either spread it over fields or to douse fires. It'd be a less cost-intensive version of the current rain spell, since you're not creating water, but just moving it.
Similarly floods are usefull. And you could use it for irrigation. The latter especially. If we're working off of the idea that we're a god with limited power (which is what they keep insisting on by restricting our access to sculpting and other things), we'd want to be able to use our power more efficiently. So using springs of dynamic water and then flowing that around the land to 'irrigate' it and make it more suitable/hospitable for our followers would be far more likely than outright changing the inherent nature of the land.
Similarly taking away that water, would remove the nourishing fluids and the land would fall into decay.
Already we've heard mention of a buff-effect to farms near the water. But I'd say this could be taken a step further. The land around water gets more fertile instead of the farms themselves being affected. In later ages, having factories or industry would spread their own tainted version of water which could in turn diminish the quality of the land.
If you're thinking along those lines, you could have divine power without the need for outright creation at every corner.
There ofcourse is a secondary shift to this. Which is, if we're going to be GUIDING our followers like a godgame, rather than controlling then like an RTS. Then our followers would need to take more action. Which means that they would need to obtain similar powers to sculpting and terrain manipulation to emulate our actions on a smaller scale.
Ofcourse they'd really need to step up their game, so I don't even know whether this would be at all possible within their current engine. (Perhaps Fabs could elaborate there?) But I'd imagine that, if Peter wants us to do less sculpting, this could be a good way to do that. A way that does not rely on timers or other micro-transactions hurdles.

It's a first step. It's pretty complicated stuff and we decided to put soemthing in, even if it was fragile, rather than putting off releasing it anymore. It'll get better.

I'd love to believe you feanix, but we've been told that for over a year now. Its all just base concepts and testing attempts. It still needs balancing and it'll improve overtime.
Yet here we are, and it still needs to be done. It'll get better? When? (I'm not asking for you to answer this, I'm asking for Peter or someone in charge to step up and take responsibilities for neglecting their paying customers for all this time)

I've killed the fountains and their output a couple of times, but have been able to reintroduce them. Half the time I've been intentionally sculpting to see just what dynamics are available, not many, the other half is because the chests are spawning in them.

I to have stopped the flow of water in the game but I had a redemption. It's all about layers of the land, you have to sculpt the land so that it is layed upon each other like fallin domine's the same goes for splitting the rift it will automatically start flowing in the other direction without stopping the other and from their just do as you the with the first river. I hope this helps to future players -TheIntro_vert
