Now about well executed Kickstarter. This Kickstarter was cancelled and the concept will be thrown into the trash bin afaik.

Which - one may argue - is better than a developer pulling through with it when they have no confidence they can pull it off. It was indeed cancelled by the devs themselves.

Did they say why they cancelled?

Not enough money. I am sure the kickstarter was done with the "ask for less and you will get more" rule. Then they saw that it would never be enough to do the game on this way, so they pulled the plug before it's to late and they have to do a game without enough funds.
Not enough people wanted to back, because of their last kickstarter. People where unhappy about neglecting their promises. Many people say the last game isn't already finished like promised. That's what i meant in the other thread. Backers remember the last time - here it was Uber Entertainment and Planetary Annihilation delivered much more than Godus, so i don't see 22cans do a Kickstarter in the near future. That's what they know, too. So only chance, go for mobile and hope it will be a success - that's a decision they made some time ago (i guess).

Yes, i am really surprised (week by week). They make progress with their game and can even release a meaningfull and informative Video almost every week. And we all know (from 22cans) that doing such a video is not an easy task - i think you need at least 5-6 people to do it - scriptwriter, actors, backgroundactors, camera operator, Steven Spielberg, cutter, a whole bunch of people who do the YouTube upload (that's the impression i got from 22cans excuses).
Stonehearth is one of the Kickstarters i am happy that i backed them.

Another KS I'm very happy I've backed is Massive Chalice. It was very well executed in terms of updates. Bot frequency and content moving forward. I didn't get involved with trying to give feedback on features and communicating with the devs. I can now see that after beta is released the designer and developers are active on their forum. And I am most happy with the beta that I got. Playable fun. PC game. If you liked XCom and fantasy theme is not a turn off you will probably like Massive Chalice as well.

Stonehearth is one of those games I wish I had Kickstarted instead of Godus. Been playing it just recently for a few hours for the last couple of days. Its a lot more relaxing and "zen-like" then 22Cons offering

I'm just going to leave this here. Obviously, I will be backing it without a second thought. More than happy to support that team and their vision, given their recent achievements.

Now here's a Kickstarter I was proud to back! Limit Theory by Josh Parnell
This guy, working alone (for the most part), has produced an absolutely beautiful game with a daily dev log where he talks about what he's done that day in a paragraph or two and a (usually) monthly video update. It has been an absolute joy to see how his game has progressed from the combat prototype back in April 2013 till now. (Interestingly enough his project has been running nearly as long as a certain other one that we all follow)

Great roadmap, certainly a great way to do it.
