In an attempt to deal with the increasing number of titles being released and subsequently send his way.
TotalBiscuit has decided to pick up a new format alongside his "WTF is..."-series.
For those who don't know, "WTF is..." is a series in which TotalBiscuit plays a game for a couple of hours (howeverlong it takes to get a decent first impression) and then goes on about several of its features. He'll generally look into the graphical and game options and so on and then show off a bit of gameplay and comment on the things he likes or dislikes about it.
This new series (of which there are now 2 episodes), he goes into a number of games per episode blind and will play for roughly 20 minutes per game right from the start.
A sort of "Dragon's Den" but for videogames. The title "Impress Me" is a placeholder for now and he intends to alter it.
Why is all of this relevant and why am I putting this on here you might ask?
Well I was watching his latest episode of this new format in which he deals with 2 games that are ported from mobile.
He points out some of the strengths and flaws of the gametype aswell as what the specific developers did well (or didn't do well) and such.
Most notably, he points out on the first game that its very much one of those "coffee break" games (he calls them toilet games) - games that are designed to be played quickly inbetween doing other things.
The second game on the other hand shows how a very minimalist game concept can make for a game with surprising amounts of depth and complexity (the game is controlled by 'tapping' and has no further controls).
Anywho - I'd recommend you watch this if you have half an hour. The games are interesting in their own right and show off that mobile games CAN infact be quite good if brought in the correct manner. Ofcourse they aren't necessarily games 'for you', nor does the pricepoint on PC always sound justified for what the game has to offer.
Nonetheless, I think that its a very good representative on how mobile games can infact work quite well on PC if the design is brought in the right ways.
I hereby show you the second episode of TotalBiscuit's new show "Impress Me" dealing with Orborun and Deep under the Sky.
