So, new front page mechanics for Steam.
They actually allow you to customize several of the boxes to show (or not show) certain catagories. The "featured" slider at the top, the "new content" box and the "new on steam" box all three allow you to not show software, early access titles and a variety of other options.
On top of that there is a "greenlight"-esque discovery mechanic which gives you a queue of 12 games (per day) that are recommended to you based on a variety of parameters such as overall popularity but also your favorites, your wishlist, your recently played games etc. And this allows you to "add to wishlist", "follow" and "hide" titles. Making the front page even more tailored to your personal tastes. Titles you "hide" will never be shown on the front page for you again.
I think this is a great step forward. Specifically being able to not show software is something that I've immediately checked. And while I personally like seeing the Early Access titles come by, I definitely know a ton of people that will want them off of their front page.

Valve: "Don't like how we run things? Go run it yourself!" Thanks! I will! =P
