Why are there still no rivers in Godus 2.0? Hah, i am not the only one who noticed that. Maybe they ran into problems with their engine. I don't think that it's really possible to connect those worlds to a super Jupiter sized world as they tell everybody. I don't think that the engine could handle anything like that. I think it will be more like a server on which all maps are hosted and you can look on other peoples maps. But maybe they surprise me this time.
What i am sure about is, when they start their marketing phase for the mobile version, with lots of interviews and expo visits they will Show rivers and things like that which are not in the game. Just like they did before the Early Acces release. And if you watch the interviews from this time back you can see him show the rivers every time. You can also see that they didn't work. The water never flew into the sea, i think it's a problem with the engine.

You might be correct. We'll have to ask Matthew some questions about that on the 22Cans forum.
In all fairness I have to say that modeling water like rivers and lakes and oceans is not an easy thing, particularly if you'd want to do it realistically. Yet there are games out there that have rivers and stuff so you'd think it should be possible to do even in Godus with it's layered terrain.

Oh i am sure it's not easy to do. But look at the videos Peter showed the rivers like they were part of the game and we know that they weren't at this time. So it was again some kind of questionable marketing. Every interview at this time had a big part him showing the water/river. And when i think back it was like this right from the beginning. Sometimes it looks like he and the interviewers had a contract about what they have to ask and what he is telling them (avoiding any question about f2p at this time - and we all know what was in the game a few days later). I couldn't belief in him anymore, maybe it's my fault and i am the pessimist who sees the glass half empty ... hm, or completly empty.
I think it would be better for me to let it go and never come back to this game, but it makes me wild when i hear him talk about how great all this inverst to play will be.

You are correct. Even before there was a game they were showing images of rivers flowing through the landscape and whirlwinds and stuff. One and a half years down the road we are still to see these. I think it would be better for me to let it go and never come back to this game, but it makes me wild when i hear him talk about how great all this inverst to play will be. I hope that won't mean you'll be saying goodbye to this community as well.

I think i'll have to come back until they finally release it. It's like a horror movie you can't stop viewing even if you are extremly scared. You'll have to see the end, even if you know it will not be a happy ending. But it's not good for my heart. But i will try not getting angry anymore and go into stupid discussions. My english isn't good enough to write what i am thinking in german anyway.

I am sad to see the game that it is and I hate collecting belief. I did start to play it so I intend to finish. I had to work pretty late the first day it came out so I am not as far along as many people. That and I had this stupid shrine I was trying to get built but the moron followers kept going the wrong way and turning around and going back home over and over and over again. So, I wanted that bitch built.

In terms of the rivers, I don't get how in the current game it could ever work as a fundamental rule in the games engine seem to be the water table is the same height in the entire world. In the real world you would expect the water table to be significantly higher in the mountains at thus large pools of water generated by digging down but no, the water all sits at sea level even 15-20 levels high. Thus to generate a "river" you have to dig down to sea level but then that's not going to work as their is no potential difference, you have basically created a canal. So to use a river as a weapon as Peter suggested isn't going to fly. in fact all you are likely to do is raise their house prices as now they have views of the great canal from their bedroom window

Lol. I do believe they had something that kinda worked. I never saw it with my own eyes but in the alpha version there were people toying around with settings and I heard someone mention he had rivers and lakes in his world.

I just had to dig through a mountain in the middle of the map to get to a card chest buried in the water. Got the bugger though.
I do not like the missions. Lemmings was never really my thing mostly as I am dreadful at it. The card chests should be available within the game else get rid of the stickers. I have a huge population over 1100 (does it stay at 600 requirement?).
Until we can develop at different rates and decide to fight, align or ignore with each other this is just a linear click and swipe fest. Better than the original - far better - but hoping that 51% gives more interaction.

That's it, I played Godus 2.0. For sure, it's better than the first realease: still a lot of clicking by though, 22cans could have given us some shortcut to replace the mouse click, anyway. I can feel there s some feeling of addiction to Godus as we need to play it a lot to progress, the landscape and little creatures are cute. I may sense future elements where players ll have to pay are time for Voyages, stickers, and of course gems... There s still no aim really in that game, that's it.

A copy of my post I made today to another poster at 22cans that sums up my feelings on the game after having played it for a few days and basically getting stuck and being told. "It is not a game yet but still in testing with some basic core mechanics only".
Yes, I get that you think the game is far from what it will be.I have not heard them say that and so perhaps another question for Matthew to answer. I also don't see them stating so on Steam and if it true and not meant to a entertaining game yet, they should tell their potential buyers that. Otherwise it is bait and switch. If they wanted people that want to pay to be testers then call it what it is and then those peeps won't have any reason to complain. So let's assume that they would not be so immoral to do that and say this game is still supposed to enjoyable to play.
I would like to hear back from 22cans about the questions many of us have with those mechanics. They are not fun. They are F2P, can we get an acknowledgement of that please? Are they intending on tweaking them even though most people don't like them ? They are quite frankly just wrong. The nature of being a GOD is totally against the nature of them. To paraphase ( and take liberty with) what another Youtube reviewer said...."I'm sorry I can't build you a settlement right now, but I as your omnipotent being don't have the right stickers yet" I also don't think God should be running around all day collecting belief and searching for chests? What kind of a lame God am I? I use that word lame, because it fits. I have to do all this menial labor because I am like a disabled or disadvantaged God. I don't see any way to make that fun and furthermore it is very un-GODlike. We have asked and I will ask again, is this game going to be a real PC God game or is this mobile F2P road it is headed down always going to be the over ruling concept of it? I have clearly explained there other ways to make money without going down that path and I would love to hear what the intentions really are in that matter. I know they heard our feedback, as well as Youtube, Steam and Facebook. This tells me they heard it and still want the game to be like this.
Plenty of players love F2P, plenty love pay to play. Most of the people that backed and bought early access are not those players. If you going to sell denture cream then it would be best to call it denture cream and sell it to older folks, don't call it toothpaste and put it in the grocery store just because you will get more initial customers because soon people will realize they have been had and you will have a bunch of angry buyers running around with denture cream on their teeth who are pissed off and never buy anything you make again. So, is the denture cream or toothpaste? By the time you are Beta you should know the intent of what you making and who you should be marketing. You must know by now if you are making a product to hold dentures in (F2P)or clean real teeth(PC God game). If it is denture cream then disclose this and sell to the nursing homes. You will still make a killing, but only if you make a game that keeps your true targeted audience happy. I think they wanted to make toothpaste and denture cream but found out the two never really mesh together, you can either do one or the other and in this case the denture cream is winning out. Nobody wants to brush their teeth with denture cream.

The collecting belief mechanic, in my opinion (and from the looks of it everyone else's), is just tiresome. It's awesome that I can hold down the mouse button and collect stuff by dragging the cursor around (from an abstract view, it's useful), but I would much rather the belief was collected automatically. Maybe click if you want to get the belief early or need a boost? Dunno, I could waffle on and not say anything that hasn't already been said, so I'll just stop. Let it be known that I am disgruntled.

Like with previous update, I got bored before I got to farming. I'll still pop in once in a while for a few minutes to gather the belief but more and more often I'll choose to spend five minutes of FB rather then in Godus. 2.0 was not a complete redesign, more like a new paint job. Follower movement may be redesigned but sculpting and belief collection are essentially the same. New game mode that is just as broken as the homeworld. Some UI updates on top of that. Nothing that couldn't be separated and pushed as a smaller updates.
Did anybody besides me notices how few days after the update Godus players go back to almost nothing. And with each update their peak users get lower and lower. Comparing player dropout to that of Starbound shows there are serious issues with Godus playability

But what i ask my self, what have they done all the time? There must be something they have done and now they don't Show us. What has the artteam done? New stickers and Cards and changed the housing style for the 5th time since alpha. But again, that couldn't be all they have done. The changes in the game are small, it doesn't feel like a rewrite.

They have also removed things. Like the different look for Followers you could earn, battles and the attack god powers. I just do not see this 49% complete game. If this is 49% the other 51% is not going to save it.
