An open letter to 22 Cans,
Some ideas for improvements of Godus on IOS:
1.) Astari and followers sometimes walk through abode walls and trees instead of walking around them as they should. Please fix this.
2.) Abodes filled with only converted Astari have Followers looking out their windows. The window idea is cool but this needs fixing.
3.) when you rotate the world to see behind things (thanks for that!) it should not snap back to original view until you touch the screen again. I constantly feel like I'm fighting with the screen to see behind things while it is fighting to snap back.
4.) gems should be available to buy for high amounts of belief, possibly as high as 50k belief points per gem. A twenty gem "gift" would cost the player 1m belief; not cheap. This would give the game more depth and more reason to advance IMHO. It would also frankly give me a REASON to keep playing while I'm waiting for sheep and the promised "mean" tribe, since I subdued all of Weyworld a while ago. And it would mitigate and smooth over the money grab aspect of selling gems a bit; frankly it would make me more apt to drop a few bucks now and then to acquire extra gems if necessary.
5.) players who succeed in converting all the Astari in Weyworld without attacking their territory should receive some totally unique gift or power. The most clever idea would be to give the converted Astari some special, useful ability that followers lack such as being soldiers or hunters to provide protection from a forthcoming threat or adversary. I suppose you could give those who destroy all the Astari some unique evil power, yawn. Those who converted some but destroyed the rest might receive middling Astari warriors.
6.) those players smart enough to engineer maximum yield mines and farms should be given some unique power or gift. Calculate this by the number of "Wheat Plains," and "Really Huge Mines" that each player produces. The overarching idea here is to reward playing well. Isn't that a basic tenant of any good game?
7.) find a way to let converted Astari and Followers interbreed to produce slightly chubby people with small masks and tiny horns. That would be very cool. You might even want to give these mixed people some unique ability. This would created more depth to the game. By the way, the birth pop should come before the whaa not after.
8.) create a tribe with dark skin before you get called on the fact that ALL your tiny people are white. It would be a fair argument. This is the 21st century folks. Or just fix this with the next update so that suddenly we have a variety of Followers.
9.) give us some freakin' sheep or animals! Please. It would be nice if the animals made the appropriate noises when you zoom in. Pets for the Followers is another good idea, I might pay to have some dogs and cats roaming about (you could scale them up a bit). Some wildlife would be nice too. An occasional puma or cougar eating followers would be clever. The player would need to locate and "finger of god" them. You could make them quick so the challenge would be to not "finger of god" something else in the process.
10.) This game has great potential. Make it better. How about an adversary and tiny weapons to give our Followers so we can use them as cannon fodder for their deity? C'mon... whatever, you need to add drama to the Godus world somehow. I think this is the biggest flaw in a game which has hints of greatness; no drama, no conflicts to overcome. There are of course the voyages but this is more of a separate mini-game in my view.
11.) The lighting storm. The lightning storm is a well done weather effect but as the ONLY weather effect it has become tedious and annoying. I realize it is linked to the arrival of treasure chests but a windy night or other weather effects could have the same result.
It is nice that Godus got mentioned among the games of the year at the Apple App Store. It is groundbreaking in some ways for sure. I would just like it to be better.
Cheers,
M
