I noticed that there was a flame floating near the peak of a mountain close to what was the astari village. It isnt always there. In fact it is only visible at "night". It was not a forest fire as it occurred before a storm and the rain failed to put it out. Please advise what that mysterious flame is.

Could it be a tiki torch?

No. It isnt a tiki torch. It is a much bigger flame than a tiki torch... and it doesn't flicker like a forest fire flame.

Some thoughts of what it might be...
An indicator of something below it? An indicator than someone other than your people are camped there overnight?
Couldn't be astari as I destroyed their civilization.

It's probably just a bug. You could try mentioning it to 22cans support but I doubt you'll ever receive a response.

It is typically the result either of a storm/lightning strike or if you've been playing with Finger of God. I know you think its not storm related but when you say rain did you mean rain of purity of just the effect in the storm?
We have had a few instances underground flames but they were harmless even if we dug down to several layers of water, the game back when we filled in again.
I've also had followers wandering off in their broken (I mean very complex) pathing and just sitting around a campfires, sometimes those fires remain after the followers left.
Worth mentioning that if you are a little careless with FoG you can cause all manner of things to burst into flames - I lost a chunk of abodes and followers once due to such a problem. Rain of purity will extinguish it but we unlock that power much later than I needed it.
