A thread for discussing his GDC speech.
Here some info from the GDC Site. He will talk about how to make games for the millions of new consumers, will he also talk about his former backers? Sounds like the usual talk he does on interviews.
Location: Room 2005, West Hall Date: Tuesday, March 18 Time: 1:45pm-2:10pm Format: Session Track: Independent Games Summit Vault Recording: Video
In this talk, 22cans founder and industry veteran Peter Molyneux will talk through his ideas of connecting millions of people together as a newly independent developer who %u201Cgrew up indie.%u201D He'll show for the first time detailed learnings from Curiosity: What's Inside the Cube?, the Steam early access debut of Godus, and how this feeds into the re-invention of the god game genre in Godus. He'll also discuss how this new indie world differs from designing a AAA game such as Fable, with a big team in a much more corporate environment. Danger is what design needs, and disruptive thinking is how we as an industry start to use some of the awesome technology that will appeal to the millions of new consumers we are creating games for. Peter's talk will challenge some of the outdated foundation stones of design, as he outlines how %u201Cout of the box%u201D thinking results in true innovation - and how the experience of working in big teams has shaped him into the designer that he is today, as an indie again.

"the Steam early access debut of Godus, and how this feeds into the re-invention of the god game genre in Godus."
You know, I wonder will many people in the audience be aware of the state of the early-access Godus forum? Will Peter talk about the unsuccesses directly, or will it be like the elephant in the room.
Then again, my money's on another big drive to 'raise awareness' of Godus and the game will soon feature in a Steam sale near you. :-)

It's interesting that even though we have new Community Manager the backers will be the last to know the news that come out of GDC.

Is there a livestream of this speech? Or does someone know if it is being blogged live?

I doubt there will be a livestream. Hopefull there will be a video of it but even that is in my opinion doubtful. More likely we will see articles on various gaming sites talking about it and quoting Peter Molyneux on some parts.

Oh my god. I've read the Gamasutra article about his speech.
This part I love most:
Community-building is the second stone on the path of Molyneux’ suggested development path. It’s a common refrain, of course — Molyneux claims that by using Kickstarter to fund Godus and then releasing early versions of the game to that small community of backers, the team at 22cans was better empowered to quickly respond to player feedback and update the game.

Anyone else feel like they were rode hard and put away wet? Gems are coming back and stickers are going up for sale, what a big surprise. How about the PC version we all backed the frakin game for PM?

It's like waking up from a nightmare and realising reality is even worse. I'll probably post what I think about his speech and his interview on The Lobby, tomorrow. If I wrote what I am thinking right now it would be some kind of ultimate rant. Good night everyone, may your dreams be filled with ultimate freedom!

Word can not describe my feeling right now after reading that. From the story " He claims that by removing player communication from Curiousity, 22cans learned how to better create a healthy community." So that is why he stopped talking because as he learned not saying shit makes a healthy community.

Yes. Very major. Do you not realize how much time goes into creating a brand new homeworld?

Yes, but the game is still just a F2P mobile dumbed down version on a PC. Which is exactly what they promised it would not be. I am most pissed about what he said about player communication. He is bragging about not giving it to us and blaming us for not creating a healthy community. Fuck that. He promised us exactly that and did not do it and now he is telling other's how they should not do it. I think the only God in PM's world is himself and that is not meant to be a compliment. PM you suck at PR and you suck as a business man. I can't wait for the day for your lies to catch up to you.

When did they really respond to feedback with updating the game according to it? At least once?
