Hey guys/devs/CMs I dislike Steam, because I'm a filthy Mac user. The steam client for Mac is terrible, and slow, and you generally have to consent to it running in the background. You have to launch it or sometimes games won't launch, etc, etc. Are there any plans to do a non-steam distro? I think I'd probably like to have Godus on my Macbook, but I won't consider putting Steam on there, not a chance.

I like: Cats; single malt Scotch; Stargate; Amiga; fried potatoes; retro gaming; cheese; snickers; sticky tape.
I don't like: Dimples in the bottom of scotch bottles; Facebook games masquerading as godgames.
Steam: stonelesscutter
GOG: stonelesscutter

I thought that originally there was supposed to be a non steam version. But that has probably long been scrapped.

If you are a KS Backer, and pledeged at a level that rewards a copy of the game, you should be provided/owed a downloadable digital copy (in some cases, multiple copies). As per the original Kickstarter pledge, " GODUS will be developed for the Mac, PC and Mobile devices...". And any tier, starting with Supporter and above, " You get one digital downloadable copy of Godus...". Also, being distributed on Steam was just an added feature, not an exclusive distro service. According to the KS Godus FAQ; "Will the game be DRM free? Steam vs. GoG vs. Other?; Right now we are compiling a list of digital distribution channels that we want to use. But the answer is simple; you will be able to play the singleplayer experience of Godus without needing to go online..." So, hopefully FuriousMoo is at least willing to look into honoring those promises down the line.

Yeah, although KS backers received X number of Steam keys at the time... as it stands I have 2 unused Steam keys, because what else am I going to do with them? My concern is that they see giving out X steam keys as honouring the multiple copies option, even though they never gave backers the option to wait for other channels to become available. i.e. I only needed 1 steam key to play the alpha version- I would have been happy only receiving 1 key to redeem at that time, and waiting to see what other options were available later in development.

The decision whether to do so or not has also nothing to do with me either. Personally I love Steam and in terms of design I want to introduce more parts of the game that people will be able to share via steam workshop. I am wanting to drop as much of the online requirements as possible however. There are downsides to this however. We have a system that allows the game to pull resources directly from the servers at launch (basically anything that doesn't require core code changes....which is a lot) without needing a whole new build. This makes updates waaaaay easier to release.

I d be glad to see independant servers runned by 22cans... thank you guys.

It's probably right behind meeting the linux promise. This is where you get into lawsuit territory. We will release the game on linux, we will provide a copy that doesn't require steam.... When exactly will that happen? At what point does we haven't done it yet become a refusal to meet a contractual obligation?

Where updates equates currently to server side balance file adjustments or are you of the mistaken belief that PC is getting many many updates pushed out? We're not exactly getting my server side changes either in pc from what I've seen. Its about 6 weeks isn't it since we had an update? Hope the development of that easy update did not stop too much actual content development...

Just throwing this out there again to see if mrdrpink has anything to say about it. Perhaps he could retrieve an official statement from Peter Molyneux about it for us?

It boggles me how 22cans has Steam as their only distribution method outside of mobile and yet their attitude upon Steam seems rather dismissive towards the users and the publisher itself.
