It's good to know there are developers like this that use common sense and cater to their audience. If I had the money, I would buy a computer that would be able to run this game and then I would buy the game.

I have been watching this game for a little while now and agree that the development, production, and marketing has been pretty spot on, and a bit refreshing. I have a certain fondness for city simulation games, but they often leave me feeling like there's something missing from the experience. Until I'm certain that this game will hold my interests, more so than Cities XL or SimCity titles did, I'm going to be hesitant to get this title. And, likewise, given that reluctance, the price point would have to be lower to entice me to purchase it at this stage. The hype and excitement for a title that suddenly (seemingly) came out of nowhere just seems a bit too... dubious to be entirely convincing.
OR, maybe recent experiences have left me a bit jaded.

Erm... Pirate, try before buy? To be honest, I did to check it out (also because it was before my pension). And WTF, it even took my pirate saves and continued playing after I bought it. I couldn't shake a feeling that it was their plan.

Having read the description I must say that it sounds an awful lot like Simcity 4. It might even be the spiritual successor. Also I have read that this game was made with Unity. Some may find that of interest.

Does it have anything to do, other than build and manage? What I mean is, are there any challenges or tasks to work towards, to propel the game forward? Is there any story or campaign mode?

None. There are population milestones achievement-based unlock of unique buildings required to build Monuments, but no campaign per se.

The creation itself is the goal.

Precisely.

Hmm, I might need more than just building and pop-cap achievements to keep me interested. I do find building to be enjoyable in, and of, itself - being both creatively and technically inclined - but I have found that with similar games I eventually lose interest without something more substantial to engage me. Unlimited expansion without content has limited duration, in my experience.
