I just played Space Quest for the first time. And completed it. I've been re-playing black and white 2, while I love the amount of quality content, I'd forgot how annoying your good and bad consciences are. They help make the longest tutorial ever, and you can't skip it. I see where Godus's tutorial style came from. I also actually dislike babysitting the creature. Telling it how to behave , that being said it has a whopping 3 resources which works well! The people also get additional job skills to that of godus (refiner/forester/worshipper) and the additional buildings are really nice, earn those doing side missions for tribute is OK. it just makes me think, why didn't PM just use b&w2 as a mechanics base. They worked! Add in the sculpting from godus and a timeline progression and you'd have a good game (I know there may of been comments that this was b&w3, but hey it would be better than what we got and different enough not to land 22can in court for IP infringements).

Now you're talking, them is my jam. I played the typical early-gen console games growing up in the late 70's, through the 80's, and into the 90's - ah, Colecovision, Intellivision, Atari ... those were the days - but when I discovered Adventure games on desktop computers it grabbed me. Those and RPGs were pretty much all I played, while friends just stuck to mostly consoles; often, in the early days of PCs, desktop computers were seen by the mainstream as just for business and education, that's it. At first it was Text Adventures, like Mystery House and Zork. Then we found King's Quest, which was the first point and click adventure I played, and was pretty much hooked. I also played a lot of the early RPG Adventure titles, like Ultima and Wizardry.
Good times.

I really want to play Fallout 1 & 2 again, I really miss those games. Used to have them for my PC before it went up in a cloud of smoke.

I just played Space Quest for the first time. And completed it. Ah, Space Quest was great! Ever dabble with King's Quest or Police Quest? Laura Bow is also a really fantastic Agatha Christie style murder mystery that came out in 1989 from Roberta Williams (creator of King's Quest who's regularly heralded as the mother of the adventure game, if you subscribe to such hyperbole). The sequel to Laura Bow is pretty fantastic too, but came out during a time when Sierra had stopped using the text parser as the primary interface. My personal favorite from that era of Sierra games was Hero's Quest (which was later renamed Quest for Glory because Sierra actually forgot to trademark the name and lost the rights to their own title). I may have talked it about it on here before, but it's a really fun blend of RPG and adventure and even lets you import your character to the later sequels, something pretty unique for that time. Be sure to play the original, not the VGA remake (which just doesn't have the same flavor in my opinion).

I did play a few early King's Quest games recently. (for the first time) Police Quest was looong ago but I never really got into it. It is on my "list" of course. I have never played Hero's Quest. It sounds more like an rpg than an advennture to me.

It sounds more like an rpg than an advennture to me. It is and it isn't. It's a bit of an odd hybrid but it balances the two well enough. Basically, just imagine an old school text parser adventure game but now your main character has skills that he can improve over time. There's three primary classes to determine which skills you get and thus certain classes solve certain adventure game puzzles in ways specific to their class. For example, early on in the game you need to climb a tree. The fighter can just climb the tree fine. The magic user isn't skilled in climbing so they have to figure out another way to get up the tree. The game leans heavily towards adventure game style play, but it does have RPG elements to add some complexity to the way puzzles can be solved. Even if you don't typically enjoy RPG-esque stuff, it's definitely worth a try if only to see how innovative the game was to try and fuse different genres together back in the late 80's.

Quest for Glory (the name I played it as) was loads of fun. Probably my favorite Sierra game. I only played the first 3 (the first is still definitely the best), but played a few minutes of the 4th which I know people like. I didn't even realize there was a 5th in the series.

All this talk just reminds me that there still needs to be another Gabriel Knight game to tie up all the loose ends left at the end of the last one... grrrrrrrrr.....
