Well,
arryu, first of all it can be noted that they have already surpassed their funding goal by a long shot. The only stretch goal left to reach is the simultaneous release on all platforms. I don't know whether that is something that is desirable in any way. It seems to me that it doesn't really matter whether the game will be released on all platforms simultaneously. I would like to add that that is a goal they have set for themselves but there is no guarantee that they will actually be able to stick to that since over the course of development many things can crop up that could get in the way. Just look at the staggering amount of fail that 22cans has managed to deliver in regard to their kickstarter promises. Seeing as they have surpassed their original funding goal by so much already I would think that they will be able to produce a very decent game and that there will likely not be as many issues with the kickstarter promises as 22cans has had with godus.
Having a close look at the 70 pound pledge level that you're interested in I would say that you would get the following rewards:
Physical copy of PC game (on dvd or cdrom)
Sountrack on cd
Hardcopy manual
Hardcopy artbook
Exclusive teeshirt
Special thanks in the Yooka-Laylee credits
It is not specified whether you would also get digital copies of the game, artbook and manual and it is also not stated that you would get a code to download the digital copy on a platform of your choosing. I would err on the side of caution there. Just assume the worst case scenario and think that you won't be getting any of those since you opted for the special boxed PC edition. You could of course always ask the question to the development team upfront. Though I must note that even if they do say that they will give you all the digital stuff as well there is a chance that they will ultimately not deliver it. This has been evidenced by 22cans godus kickstarter campaign where a lot of promises were not met or broken or twisted to mean something differently.
I see that they are offering a hand signed t-shirt. Let it be known that 22cans have also made this promise and in the end what was delivered was a t-shirt with the signature PRINTED on it instead of it being hand signed. You can ask the team whether they plan to actually sign each t-shirt themselves or whether they are going to have it printed like 22cans did.
Hold on there! I just discovered the following picture on their kickstarter page:
This seems to indicate that as a 70 pound backer you would receive the following stuff:
- Special thanks
- Backer forum access
- Digital edition of the game
- PC toybox experience
- Digital manual
- Digital soundtrack
- Digital art book
- Enhanced PC toybox experience
- Exclusive t-shirt (
if you pay an additional 20 pounds making it 90 pounds in total)
- Physical game (DVD case)
- Physical manual
- Physical soundtrack (on CD)
- Physical art book
That means you don't get a t-shirt if you pledge 70 pounds, only if you pay the additional 20 pounds you will get it. You might as well back the 90 pounds pledge level because that would then be identical.
Looking at the picture it is still not clear whether you would receive a digital copy for both PC and a console platform or whether you would have to choose one of them or whether you would just get a digital PC copy because you opted for a hard copy PC version. So you should really ask the developers about this.Regarding backer forum access, that is nice, but when you look at what happened with the original 22cans forum one can wonder whether that is such a great thing. First of all the forum would be closed to outsiders which seems like a nice perk but it also means that if shit hits the fan the negative publicity would be contained within that backer forum unless people go out of their way to post on other forums such as this one for example. This is the main reasing godus.boards.net even exists today. ( hooray!
)
I also see the following interesting picture on the kickstarter page:
This at least gives some insight into how they plan to budget their pledges.
They say they plan to ship the game in October of 2016 on PC, Mac and Linux and that console versions would follow
shortly after that. This does not mean that the game would actually be released at that time. And shortly afterwards is a vague term that could end up meaning years after the initial release. Let me just quote the text on the kickstarter page just for completeness' sake.
So in the end it is all up to yourself to determine just how much faith you have in the developers and how much money you have to spend that you would not miss if things turned to shit. It is obvious that Kickstarter doesn't lift a finger when things go wrong with a project so don't expect to get your money back at any point in the future after backing the project. (unless the developers are actually a fair bunch and they offer it themselves)
