Having played and enjoyed the Godus iOS version for a period of time, the de-evolution of this seemingly interesting game has been more than a disappointment… More so, the strange process of little to no actual progress/update toward actual gameplay has been more than annoying, to put it lightly... Not being a member of the tech community, my commentary is solely based upon the consumer end of things. Regardless, this game has been bungled mismanaged beyond what I feel qualified to comment upon.

That is the common grump - the game has promise, has a select few points of brilliance (being able to sculpt with your finger on mobile is an interface that adds to immersion) but the game's other problems...timers and whatnot in a single-player game and basing the design all around that model, it just doesn't work.
Imagine timers on Black & White...wait 5 hours until you can teach your Creature again. Godus also has horrible game flow compared to where it obviously drew its monetisation inspiration from, the fortress mobile games of Clash of Clans and Dungeon Keeper Mobile. Where the wait to build better parts of your fortress are a very integral part of that game, in Godus to do much of anything you have to keep going on with the cow clicking to get to the next bit of content until...suddenly no more content.
And quite likely no more in the foreseeable future since 22cans is on a "combat sprint". So the piss-take 22cans did upon mobile users was that folks paid money to speed up a single-player game and all they have is some pictures of their digital sand castles instead of anything resembling an end game. Which is a stark contrast compared to the games Godus feebly tried to rip off for its microtransaction model.
Nice, huh?

I appreciate the thoughtful reply; the game has been more than disappointing. In particular, its seeming promise (based upon the unrealized multiplayer/community aspect [i.e. Hubworld]). Best to just let it die as something with potential that was embroiled in the shortcomings of large-seeming personalities...

Indeed, the big draw to the game is that it LOOKS brilliant and has a bit of the charm that we've expected from PM's design aesthetic. Godus does have quite a promise if it were allowed to become so, but the monetisation before the design was what made it choke, at least that is what appears to be what the timeline and design changes would suggest. (There are info threads on these being linked in other topics - if you're still interested about this topic in bit I should have at least a start of a list assembled.) Do we need one of Sith Lord GabeN's lads describing how they have lost faith in Godus and 22cans as a press announcement for Half-Life 3? If anyone's wondering about that reference: kotaku.com/5969800/peter-molyneuxs-son-doesnt-seem-to-care-about-half-life-3-anymore

Godus really did have a huge amount of potential. To see it pissed away on get rich quick schemes is annoying as hell to a fan of his previous works.
