I always thought scotch would be much sweeter and smooth to drink, so imagine my surprise when I first tried some. I dunno why, but I suspect I got that impression from the way its drank on film, as if its just a strong but refreshing carmelized liquid.

That's probably because in films they drink watered down apple juice or something like that. Did you take a big gulp the first time? Scotch is an acquired taste but it acquires quite rapidly. |

Seriously, just add coke and sour mix and instant Long Island Iced Tea, nobody much cared about the rum, gin or triple sec when you drank them anyway, right? I know an old bartending trick was to make a "light" one with mainly vodka but dribble some Tequila on top and none but a few who ordered one could tell the difference and still happily slurped it down and paid the hefty price. TBH, a drip of Tequila on top of any LI Tea usually meant a healthy tip too.   |
