Let's see who can tell the difference.
* Find a group of people. Tell them if they follow you, you shall lead them to something wonderful.
* Lead the group of people through a slow path, explaining how terrible the current environment is and how where you're taking them will be something magical.
* Upon reaching the promised destination, show them a open barren desert but on the horizon is the suggestion of something wonderful. Tell your group of people that it's not much now but in time it will really be something to be proud of.
* Tell your group of people what they need to do for now is just keep growing their numbers in order to reach population milestones so you can generate more resources to spend. Ensure your people don't do anything for themselves. They have to only do what you say when you say it and never deviate.
* Once this is under way and before reaching that horizon, uncover a giant pit. Build this pit up and when resources are needed throw as many of your group of people into the pit as you wish to generate more resources and never give another thought to those cast into the pit.
* When your remaining group of people become unhappy about the pit and how easily they're discarded, hand out empty gesture objects to make your group of people feel loved. These objects cost resources though, so throw more people into the pit to compensate.
* Introduce a new concept to your people. What they have to do now is repeat one repetitive action over and over and over again with no objective or reason behind it, other than to generate resources for you to spend on other things.
* Find a group of people who don't believe in you, and want to have fun. Kill them. Wipe them out until none remain. They can't be converted to the ways you have set out for your group of people.
* Once your group of people reach a certain threshold, introduce another 'new concept' where they have to repeat the same repetitive action over and over and over again with no objective or reason behind it, other than to generate resources for you to spend on other things.
* If the resources generated from your group of people isn't sufficient to sate your spending needs, throw more of them into the pit to speed up the process of making resources. There's always more where they came from.
* Once you've ran out of room. Find a new land to develop and bring over a large chunk of your group of people and forget about the first land. Those left over can sort themselves out.
