Well, I got an email back. A very firm NO. I guess I live in Timbuko. Back to drawing board, and cats are going crazy.

What about slightly customising an off-the-shelf one? You could try the Leopet, then if the perches prove too small, replace the perches with hand-made ones. You would already have the metal fittings to screw them on to the posts, and the perches themselves could be simple chipboard constructions.

He is working mad hours so no time for that. Also, being in NI, I have no clue where to go for supplies. We have no car either so it could end up costing more than our budget with all the taxis or not even be possible to carry supplies home.

B&Q or Homebase But I get your point about transporting materials. Sounds like you're better buying off-the-shelf and having it delivered, as you say.

You might find it's tall enough as it is. It looks to me like it's got a pretty good height to it. My top 3 cat products are: - The Leopet cat tree (soon to be replaced by a home-made model, courtesy of my husband - I'll let you know how it turns out) - An extra large scratching post ( www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00T4I6WXI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00). They love this, especially our largest cat, would can't stretch to his full length on a normal post. They also love climbing it and perching on the top. - Da Bird. This toy is kept in a secure cupboard and only comes out on special occasions because it makes them all go ballistic.

Awesome. Report back on how your cats get on with them! I don't think those other two items would go down too well with my cats. We tried them with a wave-like scratching pad once, hoping it would be an appealing alternative to the carpet, and for some reason they never really took to it. They are fickle beasts. They did love a cardboard scratching box thing we got for them (something a bit like this: www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/cats/scratching_posts/scratching_pads/scratching_mat/280459) which resulted in lots of tiny shreds of card being sprinkled all around the carpet. That second cat tree looks interesting. I like the idea of the horizontal post - I could see them perching on that to have a good scratch. I think the middle post would not be high enough for my cats, and the higher one is a little more enclosed than mine tend to go for. On the other hand, in our bedroom they currently have very few locations they like to sit, other than the window sill. It never occurred to me to put some cat furniture in there.

Awesome cat tree! I hope it doesn't take too long to ship.
We were given the first of those two radiator beds (the tunnel) as a gift, and unfortunately ours wanted nothing to do with it. I eventually threw away the frame and put the faux fur sleeve (which is removable) down on the spare bed where they like to sleep. To my surprise, they're a bit more interested in this and I often find they've burrowed into it to have a nap. I don't know what it was they didn't like about it when it was assembled and on the radiator.

I am pretty excited about it. My girl loves to go in caves. The mini tree came last week and it has a small cubby in it. It's way too small for him but she is small and it works for her, but it is like a tube with a hole in it, and she looks sad while in it, like she wishes she was covered more. I even put a blanket around it and she went in it. This is the cat that walks up to you when you are in bed or on couch under a blanket and pushes her way in under the blankets. She lets me "tuck her in" all the time. The boy would not be caught dead for 2 seconds like that. He always wants to be out in the open. It was pretty cold in our house last winter and she is a shorthair so maybe this is partly why. He is sturdy and fluffier than her so again, maybe this is a part of it, not sure. I watched that "My cat is from hell" show and really agreed with what the guy said about how some cats are just bush dwellers and some are tree dwellers. Ba'al is the tree dweller and Qetesh is the cave dweller in our house. As I type they are both on the couch with me. I have blankets on the couch. She is half under the blankets and all tucked in like a baby and he is down further on the couch on top the blanket with his head up against the couch pillow. Obviously both crashed. Maybe they are dreaming of a big new cat tree. I really think she is going to love the cubby and I bet he will sit on top of the cubby and bat at her. LOL. I am thinking they might do the same thing when the radiators beds are placed side by side. Our living room radiator is a long double one so perfect for one of each. It won't be till next month, but I will let you know when we get the radiator beds and how it turns out. I will also update with how the big tree works out. I just wish it was here NOW. I think my cats are my substitute kids.

You realize we're going to need to see photos of the finished masterpiece, right? All this buildup, to a tinkerer like myself, without a final build image is torture.

Ehm... it's a standard cat tree. You can only put it together in one way. Well, if you want it to be any good that is. Well then, I feel the descriptions far oversold the scope of this build project. And, for the record, I've seen some pretty amazing cat-tree configurations. I think there is some confusion. Ba'al and I just bought one. We have limited choices due to cost of tree, size of our room to put tree in and needs of our cats, wanting it to be pretty high for my tree dweller and also have a nice size cubby for my cave dweller. There are many super cooler ones in USA and in NL. Uk and Ireland pretty much such for pets, imo. The landlord was a one in a million to talk into having our cats here there is like one bloody vet in all of Belfast that would cost you an arm and a leg since pets are considered luxuries here. Meanwhile I see several cats roaming the streets all the time, but don't get me started on that. Anyhoo, we could not get a super cool one. They cost far too much, plus shipping, plus pretty much won't even deliver here. It seems Northern Ireland is like Timbukto to many manufacturers. I had to buy my American layout wireless keyboard from Ebay and wait for almost a month for it to get here from I am not sure where. Now Crumpy's husband, on the other hand, is building a tree from scratch. His tree can end up looking like whatever he can build and his imagination. I envy them, but for now. I am over the moon for the one I bought our fur babies. It is not as tall as I would wish but after 2 months of looking, we decided to go with the one I showed the link for. For now, here are some pics of Ba'al and Qetesh pre-tree, the thing you see them in is not a tree, it's a bed with small cubby on top of it. Kinda Meh, but might get moved to another room once big tree comes. Big tree is going to be 165 cm. s1085.photobucket.com/user/Graybrew1/library/Fur%20Babies?sort=3&page=1

Looks like your cats have immediately taken to it. That's always good news!
My husband has started work on ours but it will take some time. I post a picture once it's done.

That's just the mini one, it is more like a bed with a tube on top of it. Only about 2.5 feet off the ground. The tree should be here soon, it will be over 5 feet tall, I think ( I suck at conversions). I will also post some pics when we get it and Lord Ba'al goes picture crazy again. He takes all the pics, the poor camera would be covered in dust if it was up to me.
I am really curious to see what your hubby builds. Is he all excited about it? That is so cool he is building a tree for his fur babies.
