Took less than 24 hours to backtrack on that one. I'm glad this has happened but I'm still stunned that they even tried it in the first place.

Yea I do not think it was smart in any way shape or form. I think they thought they could get away with it and was shocked that people still remember Godus and the No PC micro transaction statement.

Makes you wonder if Simon ever actually bothered to study up on all the promises that were made about Godus.

The only reason this got removed is because they obviously didn't make any money out of it at the moment and was just another thing that could be used against them in reviews and press releases. I somehow doubt this is the last we've seen of microtransactions. Also he fact that they even tried to pull it off in the first place is evidence enough to show how out of touch they're with the community and PC gaming in general.
They can't even remember their own words. God forbid they actually remember any user feedback.

Putting a paywall in Godus Wars was a deliberate and strategic move by 22Cans. They are very familiar with this market and this community. Thy knew it would be deeply unpopular and would generate bad press, but there was always a tiny possibility they would get away with it and squeeze some more money out of people, so they went ahead and did it anyway.
They have been VERY quick to about-face on this, which does make me wonder if they've received challenges from either Valve or one of the more prolific media outfits.

Personally if they added cosmetic micro transactions I would not be bothered. I would not buy any now, I would have at the beginning, But that boat has sailed now. I think they have even fucked up their chance of doing that.

Certainly a possibility, given their history. If this was the direct response to a publication putting the screws to 22cans and their previous assurances to the community, I hope it's at least documented or even better, reported on. It boggles the mind just how many flubs one studio can make. Good greif.

Wow at the tone of this part of the announcement:
....'In the mean time, its been brought to our attention that the extra content being a premium add on really isn’t a popular choice. Whilst we think that it does represent good value, especially considering that Godus Wars has been delivered as a free update to hundreds of thousands of users and the lower purchase price of the main game we understand previous Godus owners frustrations with this'.....
1) The way it is worded it sounds like they -expected- that having to pay for ingame unlocks would actually be a -popular choice- and they are now surprised it isn't? Really?
2) Then it sounds like: Well, now that it has been brought to our attention... well, what the hell, we don't need the money anyway, so here it is for free?
3) Even though they think we are ungrateful, since they delivered a free update to hundreds of thousands of users and reduced the price?
4) And they really think only the previous owners of Godus have a problem with the pay-for-next-island scheme?
Boggles the mind, it does.

I have to wonder how that conversation in the office looked like...
Colin: "FUCK! Some jackass actually finished the game already revealed that we have microtransactions on Steam forums and even posted a screenshot. It's spreading across the internet..." Simon: "For fucks sake... Sales guy! How much money did we make out of this sham?" Sales guy: "As of now... one sale... with a pending request for a refund, claiming the purchase was made by mistake." Simon: "Ungrateful pricks... pull it. Fuck! I need to write something up. Hmmm... how should I spin this... Colin ideas! And get me some coffee."

What a sad comedy of errors. If I wasn't so livid about their greediness I think I'd actually feel sorry for the Cannery right now. Heavens know they could have used the revenue their ill-planned paywall could have netted them.

imgur.com/QhQJcbDWas the new opponent supposed to be Bryan Henderson? The picture does look a bit out of place and the 'kid' in it has a cube in his hand. Maybe we were supposed to fund his "life-changing" prize with this "DLC".

I think it was. They said he was in the game as an opponent.

I love this:
"Molyneux emboldened his promise to no longer speak to the press by speaking to the press yesterday to assure that he no longer spoke to the press. He has so far managed to not speak to the press about this latest incident."
