Sim City 5 is a seriously crap game. Granted it might have been patched since I played it but the design decisions were terrible. Here are some stinkers:
• one lane in and out of town creating massive traffic jams. • a tiny plot for your city • public transport that makes traffic worse • a simulation that has people changing home and jobs daily • an intercity trade system that when I played didn't work • water that is a scarce resource (the aquifers didn't refresh).
I was so angry about this game. It should never have been released. Oh and DRM what a joke.

It should have been called sim town. I mean seriously a city game that at its biggest caps out at 400k people, that is just sad.

Ouch! OK, not worth buying it for sure then. I was looking forward being able to make roads better than in Sim City 4.

what I usual play the most of, which is good old point and click adventure games... such a great resurgence recently, the latest was The Last Door which has the best atmosphere and tension with the least pixels! Great stuff. Oh, me too. I forgot that I'm currently playing through the Broken Sword series. I backed Broken Sword 5 on Kickstarter and am going back through all the previous ones, so I can get to play the one I helped fund. Do you know the Blackwell Series or Resonance (both by wadjet eye games)? I highly recommend them to you if you don't know them yet. They are absolutely great (storywise and puzzlewise). I really liked Resonance; I played it several times to try different paths and to see the alternate endings. I wish they'd do a sequel to it or something similar. Haven't picked up Blackwell yet - though if you recommend it, I might just go grab it. Point and Click are my all time favorite genre, having grown up with all the Sierra and LucasArts; really enjoying the resurgence in popularity (esp. thanks to crowdfunding). I've played ALL Wadjet Eye Games, 90% of my kicker starters are p&c too. Such good stuff

Sim City 5, yeah. What a shame. Beautiful looking game done in by horrendous, horrendous design decisions.
I've been playing lots of Banished, recently. Usually once a month I go on a Kerbal Space Program bender. That game is amazing.

When did that hit the market, somewhere in the stone age? I have a laptop that is now probably about 6.5 years old and it wasn't top of the line when I bought it. It runs that game without a hitch though. I thought Macs were supposed to be über powerful.

Strike a light, I just about hit the minimum specs. Still might wait until I upgrade next year before jumping back in so that I can experience it running on full horsepower, got plenty of other games to keep me busy in the meantime.

You'll get better performance running it under Windows via Boot Camp. Mac ports usually have higher system requirements than the Windows version because of the additional translation wrapper. Most games use Cider. Lately, I've been playing AC4 on my XBox 360. It's very calming sailing the Caribbean while singing "Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me".

I love SimCity 4 (too bad my current Mac isn't good enough to run it), not played 5 though. I like most things about the game but making the roads work has always been a challenge for me. I had heard that they would be easier to construct in Sim City 5, but if not, then no reason to upgrade till all the bugs are out. Could you try running virtual windows to increase performance or playing remote on another gaming computer you have access too? I hate to admit it but I was debating on going back to regular Sims too, they gave some nifty expansion packs. I still pay for Wow, so I could try that again, but the battles bore me. I would love to find a good game with mysteries and secrets built like Myst but that was ancient. Anybody know if any of the remakes of that are any good?

I've been playing the forum game mostly. I was on a HUGE gnomoria kick a couple weeks ago, but now I'm onto minecraft, a bit of farcry 3, the Forum Game, and I've created a game of my own. My GF and I recently got a kitten and now every time she texts me I reply with kitty pictures. She tries to be mad but can't cause kitty is cute. XD

I tried to play Pirates! on an Amiga emulator last night and I was really looking forward to it but it turned out that the numpad wasn't functioning like I thought it would so the game was sadly unplayable. Harg! I've been playing the forum game mostly. I was on a HUGE gnomoria kick a couple weeks ago, but now I'm onto minecraft, a bit of farcry 3, the Forum Game, and I've created a game of my own. Just spent a few days playing through Tales of Monkey Island. I hope someone will make a new MI game sometime.

Speaking of Point-n-Click games, I've been playing an old favourite recently: ToonStruck[ amazon]. Highly recommended for its zany humour (Lots of visual puns, very Roger Rabbit), and its all-star voice cast. Pick it up cheap somewhere and it will run easily under ScummVM (http://scummvm.org/)

My all-time favourite game is Left 4 Dead. I could play it all day. I have L4D2 too but it just doesn't have the same atmosphere for me.
My Steam library is completely crammed with stuff I've bought on impulse during Steam sales, tried playing for 15 minute then got bored and quit. I got some seriously good mileage out of Don't Starve, though. I used to love trawling through the Steam store for promising indie games, but I'm beginning to think "indie game" more often than not means "crap, buggy game" which is the same kind of disappointment I feel when I go to an independent restaurant or pub and have a bad experience. "Independent" is losing its positive connotations, I feel. Don't even get me started on Early Access.
I also love board and card games. We have a bunch of people come around most weekends to play and I look forward to it all week, especially now the World Cup has rudely disrupted our weekly pub quiz...

I suffer from the same affliction. I mostly buy stuff discounted and/or during sales, so at least I'm thrifty with my addiction hobby.
I should make a list of all the games I tried but didn't like or got bored with - probably be about 1/3 of my game list.

Diablo 3 has an almost unholy grip on gaming habits right now. I'm currently halfway through Nightmare mode with a Monk. Aiming to get to level 60 (or close enough) with this character so that I don't feel compelled to go through Hell mode too - to be honest, I'll be glad to have finished the game (for a second time) so that this horrible addiction will cease.

I was just staring at the link to my Diablo III the other day while cleaning up my installed game library. I haven't had a chance to really get into it, what with all my other games begging for attention ahead of it. I did actually get the urge to boot up Starcraft II instead though, and smash some Zergs for a few hours.
