... and I think 22cans / PM will have some bad surprise.
I was remembering PM saying "we don't want people bullying each other, so we don't give a chat", and I keep thinking it's a stupid reason, because muting an a**hole don't turn him in a gentleman. And then I thought about possibilities offered by the "Simultaneous multiplayer sculpting" feature. If you have played game like Minecraft or Starbound in multiplayer, you know about griefing, and you understand what I'm getting at.
Let's imagine: someone come in your beautiful terraformed homeland, and remove all stairs you made to let your people move around. Or someone start to flatten one of your mountain you love and want to keep natural.
And what's the point of a multiplayer creation tool if you can't communicate easily ? You can't even be shure if all players agree on what you intend to do.
Godus in solo haven't much to offer, and I think it won't change a lot. That's why I'm patiently waiting to see the multiplayer, but if you can freely dig into other people worlds, it will turn into a big mess, and the fair of bullying PM have won't be a big problem, even with a chat.

In the multiplayer we had previously, it was viable to destroy the land under your opponent or FoG or Swamp or meteors or unleash your champions etc. but that was outside your homeworld and I recall chat windows through the steam client...

I don't like: Ignoring a unpleasant question or answering with something that is only loosely related or way to vague to actually answer something. Mods that Cherry-pick in discussions. Banning people for minor offenses.

"we don't want people bullying each other, so we don't give a chat" Couldn't people just sculpt swear words, genitals and swastikas? (which probably quite a handful will do. Anyone remembers number of genitals on spore for the first months?). I guess they just don't want that people openly chat about the scam, missing promised feature and free to play nature.

He did say be careful of who you invite into your homeworld. I know the said the hub and homeworld are some how linked but I still hope that what happens in the hubworld can not destroy your homeworld.

Are we children? Even Settlers Online has a chat. That game is for 12 and up. I think I can handle a minimize button on the chat if I don't wish to see it, like almost every other modern day multiplayer game offers. This is a ridiculous thing to say, I guess he just does not wish to be bothered and again does not want to do what the players want, so he made up this nonsensical argument that has no merit.

Isn't it a simple matter of writing some code that auto-bans spammers? For posting duplicate messages, for posting lots of short messages in quick sequence, for using certain words that are on a ban list, etc.

You cannot force someone to chat if they don't want to, but if you don't have it at all, you are forcing all that do want to to not be able to do so. Many people love the social aspect of multiplayer games, it is literally the only reason I still play SO.

Players will be able to communicate via text in Hubworld. Whether or not it's an ability you earn is TBC.

I think the idea of having no chat isn't about profanity primarily but just about creating the environment that allows for players to communicate creatively using sculpting and other sorts. Games like Journey and curiosity too have been great because of the lack of chat. That was specifically for hubworld too I think. I imagine chat could be something you unlock in the future once you've experienced that.

People use the chat in SO for two main things. One is just hanging out and socializing while playing their own island and the other is for strategy. Anything from advice and suggestions to how to run a better island to help working on doing the battles that players can join up on in their "adventures" there.
I think if Godus gets to the point of having more strategy involved in the game then it would greatly enhance the enjoyment on both fronts for the game. I would also suggest an opt out option if players don't wish to be involved in chat.

If some people can have chat and some people can't (due to progression, for example) this will not work.
Those who don't have chat will assume it's a bug or that they haven't been able to locate the chat function. This will be reminiscent of 1.3.1 when a lot of users didn't realise that their fellow players were actually bots, and posted on forums asking how to access chat. Also, the experience will be depressing. They'll be bombarbed with teenagers callnig them "n00bs" because they haven't made enough progress to unlock chat, and they won't be able to respond.
Chat functions and friend lists are absolutely bog-standard functionality in any kind of multiplayer online game. 22Cans is not clever enough to implement this kind of functionality into gradually unlockable game progression (source: the heavy-handed, badly thought-out way in which all the other functionality has been implemented) and shouldn't waste time and resources trying.

I understand your confusion. Speaking as a male of the species; Sadly, despite all the efforts of your gender, the vast majority of this side of the procreative spectrum ceases to mature past around 12, other than sexually. I understand your disappointment on behalf of all female humans everywhere. And as a male we are not ignorant of this, which is why we pretend to be all adult and such for work and relationships etc... so we can win y'all as mates, but reality is; "we have fart jokes and giggle inside at the thought of boobies". We are sorry to let you down but think it best to be honest. On topic, This is another pander to the mythical plethora of cash spending casual mobile gamers. It is doom, but there they go again.

Dude, your funny! I am confused, you think a chat is a pander? Chat is one thing I have seen across the board in games. I think any game you are playing is for fun and when people are having fun some like to do it with others and socialize and others like to play in solitude and get lost in the game alone. I like having the choice. When I am in the mood to chat, I do. When I am not, I minimize the chat window and just play.

I am not actually very socially adept and thus always worried that I shall offend people I respect.

I signed up as a backer for the single-player portion of the game, which sadly doesn't look like it's going to be compelling or interesting to play either unless things change. The short of it is, I don't play multiplayer all that much, but to me a chat function in a multiplayer game is essential and paramount to building a community relationship. Without the social aspect, it will cater to the brash 'bravado and taunt' masses, than without. This game isn't Call of Duty or GTA, it's a freaking sandbox city building god game. And actually, a lot of games with built in community social aspects are quite robust, fostering camaraderie and cooperation, and practically self-manage/moderate themselves. To remove that aspect might actually be detrimental to such a delicious zen-like multiplayer community.

Okay, I really don't see how that would benefit them or be any type of a pander. I just think this is something that PM sees one way and the players are seeing in another way. I am hopeful he will change his mind on this one if enough players make their wishes known.

But 22cans is hellbent on the "reality and all advice be damned, we are making a casual mobile game and talking to real (yes I mean PC cause all else is fake) gamers shall scare the easy marks!"
