I avoided crops until I'd completely expanded. I needed the mines for ore to use the ore beacons so was forced to that usage. Crops-wise I actually accidentally sent farmers out from astariville so that forced my hand there - otherwise I'd have been cropless.

My biggest concern about weyworld is that it will be even more controlled than homeworld.

My biggest concern about weyworld is that it will be even more controlled than homeworld. It is. That's kind of sad isn't it. I wish peter has created incentives for us to build interesting and diverse worlds, instead he made it painful/difficult for us to modify the worlds he creates. Are the new sculpting cards better or are they not implemented yet?

I've not unlocked it yet. I was still 22 hours off yesterday when I stopped playing. I've around 100 followers building the ark so that gave me like 3 days of wait. Sans wayworld/weyworld there are no cards in homeworld, since I'd already unlocked them all.

Seems it still cannot count, at least in terms of time. Maybe its a side effect of the changes proposed to constraint astari but, 28 hours after last actually playing the game my 22 hours had 6 hours left to run - half an hour of belief/ore sweeping since nothing else to do - let it for 12 hours (exited), and 6 hours still needs 12 minutes. The current optin is on its 3rd version number in as many days with zero explanation. Original was 9935.28191, then 9935.28250 and as of last night/today its 9935.28323.
9935.28431 appears to be have introduced last night.
Only difference I'm seeing is a lack of belief/ore creation when the game is offline, i.e when I finish playing and exit it.

I played the last update (the one before the weyward) a lot just to give the game another chance but almost nothing has changed. Now I've abandoned Godus completely, that's also the reason I don't post here very much and I think this game can't be repaired. It's fully made of dysfuntional gameplay, long waiting timers and very bad design decisions. I stated some of the weyward design mistakes as soon as the newsletter came in (in the steam forums) and wonderes how people that work in the industry can produce such all through unelaborated piece of software. Actually the quality of the newsletter itself shows how much respect is there for the pc gamers. It's full of spelling errors and "It all will be great, you'll see". If one of my students would send me such an e-mail I would ask them politely to at least use automatic spelling checking software ... but this comes from a company.
tl;dr
Played before weyward and got disappointed AGAIN -> abandoned godus

Hmmh had turbo crops in weyworld and homeworld yesterday - until the ability to click left the game - aside from the settings button. In weyworld where I now have a total of 3 fields I was getting a crop every couple of seconds, instead of 10 and 15 minutes depending on their size - homeworld was insane, same issue but I've got 200 fields or whatever of larger sizes and I got not keep up with collecting it.

Was that an unlock? Or did it happen because of a patch (glitch/accident in coding)?

Glitch. I only happened for maybe 10 minutes, in an hour long session. I might have made more of it if I'd not been battling to try and do something useful in weyworld but with so few ore fields it was a real struggle. If I'd cottoned on earlier I'd have gone back to homeworld and 'filled my boots'. I'd used most of my resources up cutting a whole in a mountain to get at a temple, which gave me about 8 gems and half a dozen cards - I'd not have bothered if I'd realised the poor payback.

And from a practical perspective. Do you think that the game would be "more fun" if the resource pacing were like that? Or do you think that the rapid collection would become just as tedious as the waiting?
(Thinking ahead for when we get the BFE update)

In homeworld where I've currently got in excess of 5Million belief, 17k ore, 23k crops (from around 200 each of mines/fields) not so much - in weyworld where I've got 2 mines and 3 wheat fields and about 1k of belief - yep. It was a much quicker acceleration than rain of purity. It might be meaningful if it related to some occasional event - maybe even be storms, maybe that causes a temporary blip in collection timers.

Yea, I was thinking along those lines before.
Getting scarce farmland in a desertworld makes sense from a challenge perspective. But it has to be implemented from a challenge perspective and not from an iOS roadblock or "You guys play too fast." perspective. So it'd need to be integrated into a larger biome system that brings in unique terrain modifiers.
Now the way I was thinking would be that desert could be 'cultivated' in a variety of ways. You could use rain of purity or beautify as a temporary 'terraforming' tool, to generate arable land. But this would decay quickly as the natural terrain reclaims it. Beautify and swamp powers (and all that are similar) would need to all work like this. It would convey a natural balance.
Subsequently there would be "permanent" terrain modifiers that you could place as a god (or have your followers create) that would generate a sustained modifiers. The springs would be the initial example for this, springs would irrigate soil and generate fertile lands around them. Because these fertile lands are exceptionally suitable, there'd be a small increase in productivity to offset the decreased productivity (or outright negated productivity) on the rest of the map.
Key thing here is to keep in mind that just because its a desert terrain, that doesn't mean that ALL the land is useless... There will be patches of land that provide small degrees of arable terrain, that work at reduced efficiency.
Now the key to your suggestion of "occasional events" for starters would be the floodplains. Unique pieces of terrain that occasionally/regularly get hit by a modifying element. In case of the floodplains we would see a massively increased rate of effect after each flood. Followed by a reduction as the terrain loses its boost, followed by a new flood temporarily making the terrain disabled (but not actually "destroying" fields designated on it).
They would then have three designated methods to alter the terrain. A temporary effect directly controlled by the god, but one that costs belief to keep active and will decay if not tended to. An indirect effect that the god can manipulate (or perhaps even place a limited number of times per map), one that would be more expensive to set up initially but then takes no more upkeep after that. And finally natural features that can be taken advantage of in a variety of ways.
All if this would come together to make the game more enjoyable and bring in tactical elements. As opposed to the route that currently seems to be taken - which is to slow the player down because the player isn't playing at the snails-pace that the developer envisions.

250 ore for the expansion beacon right by the ark, 250 when ore is 17hrs per - that's taking it to far. Well until the card nag flicker offers a mere 50 for gems... rub it in why don't you.

i played it for 1 hour but after i have seen that i get forced to build mines and fields on a specific Point i was done for it Playing on an iPad, these are my same thoughts. You get there and are forced into tiny areas for wheat/ore, and quickly run out of both if you want to expand and build. Looking around, there is no point again anyways - just unlock a beacon that, of course, costs even more resources, and repeat the process. To top off the frustration, the fields are closest to Astari village so upon logging back in after waiting 6 hours for a new farmer, 3 farmers left due to happiness issues, even though I kept up with it. So pointless really. The fun part for me was sculpting, and I did enough of that so I won't bother with this game any longer. I cannot fathom how much ineptitude has gone into the game design. Just really really bad. For the iPad, I really don't see who in their right mind would ever spend a penny for wheat or whatever. The engine is pretty cool, though there is really not much there at all when you think about it. Takes an hour to build a house with multiple workers. Takes 10 seconds to build a huge ore mine with one worker and you need 22 wheat or something like that. What the hell kind of logic is that. The new cards are mostly cosmetic, little boosts, or making the meteor bigger, whoa, nice! Not. I also have a huge ark! Sadly, I can't transport wheat and ore from the homeworld. Why not? And why is my belief in 2 separate boxes now? Am I 2 gods? Are these not the same people I transported in the ark? They have no faith in me at all, even though I built up 250k or belief? Ridiculous. I am not one to criticize many games, but this one is the most horrible game design I have seen in a long time. Lots of cash and talent, decent engine, but very bland and not fun once you see what is really there in the "game". Oh, and on the iPad, each time I load up the game, even though I left it running, it asks to me tap the facebook thing so I have to get rid of that, and that is after having to tap login because there is always 2 errors and then it authorizes. About 1/3rd of the time it just says some other error and you have to close and restart which takes 30 seconds. This was happening months ago and still they haven't figured out how to address those issues. I feel bad for anyone who spent money on the kickstarter, luckily, I did not.

I'm in the 'just about given up' phase. After rejigging my firewall I got Steam to connect for the first time in weeks. The first thing it tried to do was download an update for Godus and my immediate reaction was "I'm not wasting bandwidth on that" and uninstalled the game.
I have virtually no hope now that the game will ever be anything approaching something I would like to play. Blizzard has just opened Australian WoW servers, so my game time will be 99% on that for the foreseeable future.
I'll still read this forum, mostly to see the snark about the trainwreck. The Steam forum is too depressing - too many disappointed people.
