An orientated PC (Linux and Mac) game s going to be realeased: The fabulous Elite: dangerous on December 16th, 2014. "That is to say nearly tomorrow. " ^^
Most of us probably know that, but I just wanted to bring some positiveness into PC dev game spirit and inspired people.
There's going to be a special event about it in the UK for its launch: store.zaonce.net/elite-dangerous-premiere-ticket.html The game's at its beta (3rd phase), and I see it's quite fabulous from what I've seen, read, and heard. So big up to Frontier dev.

A word of warning, this game is online exclusive. As with many space games in the past that had this (the same warning holds true for Star Citizen) - be aware that servers may not remain online if money stops flowing.
With that in mind - the game looks pretty darned awesome. Definitely worth checking out if you like space sims.

A word of warning, this game is online exclusive. That's actually a thing that annoyed me, but not because of servers. It was more that I always like the lonely aspect of Elite/Frontier, whereas I didn't really enjoy Eve that much because.. well, selfishly, "There's always a bigger fish." I was never going to invest the kind of time required to fly a titan or embark on large scale operations. With single player space games, you can still work your way through the upper ranks at a slower pace, but that's kind of the point of being able to save a game and return later. It's something that persistent multiplayer just doesn't facilitate and partly the reason why I don't play any online games. I don't have the desire to invest that kind of time. Ah well, I still backed Elite:Dangerous pretty early on and I'm excited to play it... hopefully it'll just about run on my aging pc I hope the devs are successful enough to be able to sustain the servers. (But I secretly hope they have a single-player contingency plan! ;-))

I'm not too fussed with that, generally you can play solo pretty well in a lot of area's. Though the occasional dick that thinks its fun to gank weaker players does get annoying in persistent multiplayer.

I'm quite worried as well to find this kind of players: nerds stuck with their candy crush syndroma. Yes, I checked that it seems Elite has turned to be an exclusive MMO game and with its future expansions, "secured" with an online connection as Blizzard does. Hope they would have let flying space zones as you said...

It's mortalware now. Not interested in occasionally sick (network issues) and eventually dead (when servers go down) games. Part of the reason I've avoided Starcraft 2 (besides moneygrubbing 3-part division) and several other publishers' games on PC (amusingly, the same game on console doesn't as often have this flaw).

In any MMO or online gaming environment you have people that get a kick out of causing other players distress. Preferably untill they either quit entirely, or cry/rage at them.
"Haha, its just a game, you shouldn't get so worked up, haha!" Ofcourse, once they themselves are punched in the face by a stronger player they run away cause then its no longer fun. The thing being, the internet's anonymity gives these kinds of people a sort of free pass to abuse others as they wish with little to no consequences.
The power fantasy they can't apply to real-life because of actual consequences, suddenly becomes possible.
Not sure how that relates to Candy Crush? But yea.

Not sure how that relates to Candy Crush? But yea. Oh... this was a metaphoria for poor-minded people, or maybe one for too youngish people not being able to know what they "do", immature players, but of those, there are loads...

morsealworth: Yes whatever. Hope dev. studios have forcasted those type of players, and reserve them a nice space on their servers, so they can infinitely entertain themselves. Anyway... for people who catch that post up in time, and who ll have the opportunity to be in front of a PC/MAC screen tonight. You can watch the Elite: Dangerous Premiere livestream at 8PM GMT – . In case, just by chance...

Proud backer right here, but I'll probably wait for the Oculus Rift version.

He should be okay. He won't call support.

Not sold on the Oculus myself.
Its a potentially great piece of tech, but I don't see it taking the world by storm. And even if it does take off in the upcoming decade. The Oculus itself is going to be outdated and either needs to release an upgraded version or it'll be outstripped by competition.
The way I see it, Oculus is going to face the same problem as the Vita is facing. Without a proper lineup and broad support its never going to be a massive hit. No eggs? No chickens...

I'm less sold on Elite: Dangerous than Oculus, since I could see myself getting Elite at some point more than Oculus. =P
Friggin' always online. I wish games would get over trying to make me socialize with strangers while I'm playing games. I'll go to forums or something for that. I'd rather play while in a game than chat or deal with recovering from an out of nowhere death shot from another person.

I'd be amazed if Elite: Dangerous didn't come to PS$ and made use of Sony's Project Morpheus. That's probably the experience I'll wait for, I just really like how the game feels in VR.

At the moment, we know it comes for PC in 3 weeks. Here's a quote from a Frontier FAQ: Can you release “Elite: Dangerous” on the (iPhone/iPad/Console/Mac/Linux/Oculus Rift/Raspberry Pi) platform? Yes. It would be great. The PC version comes first though, and then we will look at the demand for other platforms. If the game exceeds its target, then there will be scope to increase the number of platforms. We will discuss with the backers in the design discussion forum, and how to address the issues that will arise, but I have every hope that we will cover some or all of these platforms. So... hope then...
