Further to crumpys point, by my estimate Godus is about 24 months into its development (give or take). Ignoring for a moment peters over optimistic suggestion (or was it Jack) of 9 months to complete post kickstarter, the game is reaching the point where in a traditional development environment it would be done. Most games seem to take between 2-3 years to complete with the last 6 months being polish and hype. The crazy thing about Godus and this has been the issue since before steam early access is that there is still no explanation of what the finished game will look like. If we knew this then maybe we could understand why peter has some spare time on his hands (Probably not but maybe). The major barrier to telling us what finished Godus looks like is supposed to be that they don't know, that they haven't figured it out yet. As incredible as this may be for a game 2 years into development the most extraordinary thing is that now we find out that instead of answering this very important question peter has gone on to work on a completely different problem presumably at the expense of Godus. Any suggestion that both activities can happen together wit hour undermining Godus needs to be supported with a lot more information and explanation than has been given thus far. The truth is we all knew it would end like this. Eventually the misdirection has to stop, the actors leave and we are left with an empty stage. That is the nature of things. I accept it and I realise that while the staff of 22cans were closer to the action, they too were being played by a very cynical mind. While some of us tried to remain optimistic to varying degrees, I'm willing to guess anyone with even a slight familiarity with Peter's antics saw right through the constant misdirection and market speak the community was fed. It's a shame the recent community goodwill building exercises were so easily torpedoed by 22cans own CEO. Cathartic indeed.

I know I'm late to the game.. but WOW... "There's this overwhelming urge to over-promise because it's such a harsh rule: if you're one penny short of your target then you don't get it. And of course in this instance, the behaviour is incredibly destructive, which is 'Christ, we've only got 10 days to go and we've got to make £100,000, for f**k's sake, lets just say anything'. So I'm not sure I would do that again." -Peter Molyneux- techradar

If I wasn't on the other side of the world to most of you I would suggest we get together, have a beer and have a laugh about how silly this all is. For me Godus has been an enjoyable diversion because only I have had the pleasure of corresponding with you all (George, Matt, Fabs and others included). Reading your words and responding has been fun. I even appreciated Muir from time to time. I'll miss you all so much more than Godus. It's sure been fun hanging out with all the people here. But I see no reason why we couldn't still keep hanging out.

We'll have to invent new words specifically for it. And if I had my time again, I wouldn't do Kickstarter at the start of development, I would do it at the end of development... Seriously, this is a great idea. Let's build a game and then Kickstart it when it's finished.

It's an astounding lack of self awareness. He peverted kickstarter, kickstarter didn't pevert his game. I think this is just a face saving way of saying "I realise my actions have poisoned the kickstarter and early access wells and I know neither I or 22cans will ever successfully tap them again."

I'm sure he meant "feature complete" when he said "finished". Which isn't a bad idea.
And there are a few kickstarters that do that. I've seen a couple by small indie teams (usually just one guy) who use the kickstarter funds to, say, pay for music. Or to polish up a game that would be releasable as-is (in a very rough state) w/o the kickstarter funds.

So anyone else behind Fabs and whoever else at 22cans that remains interested in seeing Godus through taking the reigns? Not that it means all that much, but at least they'd know they have our support over whatever Molyneux's new endeavor is.

There is a general consensus that current Godus sucks. Even PM and Jack have acknowledged that reality from time to time when they feel in an honest mood. The whole justification for the current state put forward by community defenders, 22cans and peter is that it's not done and therefore shouldn't be judged until the finished product is revealed. If Peter is surplus to requirements from a design point of view as has been suggested then what does that say about the completion of Godus? If it is complete or close to complete is it time for 22cans to admit they spent 2 years toiling to produce a turd? That there is no wonderful promised land that peter is taking us, just a wasteland that we predicted 12months ago. I'm for the team redeeming Godus and redeeming 22cans but how will that happen? If the assumption was peter had the vision and peter is AWOL on another project then the best they can do is start pretty much from scratch and we all know that's not financially viable. So really it's game over. I predict this will be another case where 22cans say it's not game over but 6 months or so they will admit that as of this moment Godus was effectively dead. Peter will spin this as his epihany when in reality like many things we called it first.

Like the df9 team, like 22cans should suck it up and tell us what finished Godus will look like. We can then collectively judge whether this has any creative merit and whether it meets the various promises made over the years.

Thats one thing that has always irked me.
Peter claims we shouldn't judge Godus untill it is "finished", and to cap that statement off he has hinted at certain features "completing" the game - making all the pieces come together if you will. Yet at the same time he's been unable or unwilling to reveal what this supposed "whole" is. So how does HE know what the "finished Godus" will look like, if he can't even describe what it is?
While I know that part of it is his fear of promising features. And part of it is most definitely his knowledge that dealing with the devil (freemium mobile advocate DeNA) would not sit well with most gamers... He's been hiding from his responsibilities all this time. Putting blame at others. Its the community, its kickstarter, its crowdfunding, its early access, its his childhood as a victim of bullies... Always its something else. Its his history of overpromising, its the publishers cutting him off so he can't deliver, its... never Peter Molyneux' fault.
HELL even when accounting for the time discrepency - "I went to my team and asked them how long they'd need. Thats what I based my estimation on." Well, going from 9 months to 24 months seems a pretty MASSIVE failure in estimating how long you'd need... Which leads back to the matter of responsibility - afterall, as project lead HE is the one in charge of calling deadlines. He's supposed to be the one to say "Sorry guys, time is running out we need results!" - but no... Its not Peter's fault!
I'll be honest here. If not for people like Matthew, George, Fabs and a number of other cans, this project would've sunk ages ago. And with that knowledge and the benefit of hindsight it would NOT suprise me at all that the previous "Peter Molyneux" titles became a success *DESPITE* his influence over it, rather than because of his involvement. His current desire to create some sort of mobile utopia game simply proving that. Seriously, mobile games aren't going to "replace" PC or console gaming. They fill their own purpose, a purpose that is well founded in a multi-tasking society where people have an unconcious need to DO something and keep themselves busy all the time.
I hadn't even 'actively' realized this before, but its true. People go stircrazy if they're not doing something. Even if that something is as pointless as a cookie clicker. Peter's mistake isn't that he's making the wrong game, its that he's making it with the wrong underlying motive. He's trying to make an "idle game", a cow/cookie clicker - while tapping into the vast audience of mobile users and social networking. (Which is clever and could very wel thrive...) Then he wants to tie that together with the serious nature of PC and console gaming, he's trying to turn the 'idle game' into an 'active game', or atleast draw in the active gamer into the idle game. And on top of that he's lacing his own fears and emotions into it - why does he not want people to communicate? Because he himself sucks at it. He doesn't like talking to people or interacting with people, he'd much rather stay in his own little world.
While it is true that when people interact and communicate, conflict inevitably arrises - its also true that conflict is one of the SOLE driving forces behind humanities progression. Why hide from progression?

I don't want to be an asshole but is part of the problem that peter is working on another fucking game! Sorry I had to get that out of my system. Thanks for the update george it is perfectly reasonable and I have no problem waiting until the new year.

Also interesting words "next few months content as a studio" rather than "next few months content for Godus".

Also interesting words "next few months content as a studio" rather than "next few months content for Godus". Part of why I posted this is I wanted to see if anyone else read that line the same way I did. Kudos. Although I appreciate George at least chiming in and dropping this info, and despite that whatever they say or do now doesn't - or can't - live up to expectations, it has the appearance of downplaying the urgency of the situation. Some of those expectations are is simply due to our experience, thus a reflection of our angst and anxiety towards them. The year-end mentality is very understandable (which I'm sure we can all have a mildly sympathetic attitude towards), and I have worked long enough to know that most businesses "wind-down" as the holidays approach. My point being that something in the way the whole thing was phrased basically (in my mind anyhow) affirmed my concerns about them going dark again until at least mid-January being highly likely. I've been here before, and it seems eerily familiar. That and how it was nuanced to not say much about the fact the studio is now split into to development factions. Let alone that part about " senior staff’s time for unscheduled tasks is very limited" - because the Q&A sessions should have been in the schedule for some time now. Essentially, I feel it just sounds like they are once again pandering to buy themselves time to use the holidays as an excuse to bugger off for a few months, or focus on the new project, thus once again ignoring the long-term issue of Godus's development stagnating and their propensity to write it of as a "community problem". Not sure why I suddenly give an arse this week, as I basically (finally) wrote it all off about a month ago, and mostly just lurk around the water cooler eavesdropping for juicy gossip.
