Looks like the beatings shall continue at 22cans until morale improves there as well. I am glad at least one guy there understands and is willing to pipe up a little at least.

The guy makes a lot of sense. But pre-orders will always be around. Even if they disappear for a while they will come back later.

I don't know about pre orders per se, but I have really gone off Kickstarter. I find it incredible that I bought in without really knowing what I would end up with on Godus and another project. Once they have your money........no incentive to listen to what you thought you were buying.

I still preorder but only selected titles, sure hits (event though there's no such thing) in my opinion. I've played 'Tropico 4' 328 hours , Tropico 5 preorder is a no brainer for me. Same with Civ games, 288 h just on Civ V and probably as much or more on Civ IV. I am Going to preorder Beyond Earth. Any other game? meh. As for KS I slowed down my backing mostly due to the fact that I find it hard to follow and invest my time into more than one game in development, and even though it doesn't seem like Godus is any active development it still takes up all my capacity. And I figured if the game doesn't make the goal it's probably for a reason, if it does I might just as well wait and buy it when it's released.

Maybe I would have bought the finished version though.

No I would not, but by Julians, thought I would never have backed such games as Shadowrun returns, Wasteland 2, Loka, Building an Elder God(good game slow on other rewards)HEXTCG and other games. Yes I have hit lemons like Goddus and the NASA "MMO" but for me at least I am batting in the 900 range.

But no game would ever have been backed that way. So maybe if a game is not able to be funded commercially or privately, it probably is not viable. Kickstater has it's uses but despite backing 6 or 7 projects, not sure that any have been that good that they were worth the risk.

A decent point, but bear in mind some publishers won't touch projects based on the fact that they're not the "in" thing at the time. Kickstarting is good for those projects that look good, but wouldn't ever see private funding due to it not being financially viable, which is not a bad thing. A game doesn't have to make mega-bucks in order to be a good game, but it does if you want to get financial backing from publishers or private investors.

A game doesn't have to make mega-bucks in order to be a good game, but it does if you want to get financial backing from publishers or private investors. Unless it is a small, very lucky, an indie producer with no track record then the game will not be a success. If anything is not financially viable or pursued as a hobby, it's done. I'll aside the mobile developers as they have the might of Apple, Google, Amazon etc that increase their chances of exposure. Flappy Birds being a great example of lucky mobile shit. A game that is properly funded may not make mega bucks but that is commercial risk. I am am horrified that that this long into the cycle, 22Cans do not seem to understand what they intend to end up with. The product they are evolving towards is not that I thought I was buying. I think they don't know if they are 10% or 99% of the way through.

I have just created a forum section specifically for the three 22Cans community managers to post announcements in. I don't know if they'll be using it but I guess time will tell. I also recently added a Godus review section where people can post their reviews of Godus. Please don't pollute that with things that are not reviews coz I'll just have to move them over to this board. EDIT: I am happy to see that Matthew has already posted the news about the 2.0.5 update in the 22Cans announcements section.

OMG you guys are all gonna have a fit when you read the transcript I'm working on. I'm only about a third of the way through it now but I'm pretty sure there might be a shitstorm on the horizon. EDIT: Okay so the transcript is up. godus.boards.net/post/2051/thread Enjoy the read.
