I kinda expected a lot more activity on the forum tonight. I noticed the forum has been down for a little while tonight though, not exactly sure for how long. During the day the forum was a lot busier. They must be slacking in the USA. I bet tomorrow will be even busier though with the pending PC update. I agree. Anywhere from 12-14 hours away for PC now! I should be sleeping, but sleeping's for pansies! If by pansies you mean "responsible working stiffs with a mortgage", then put me in a skirt and call me dandy.

So chaps... gems back in the PC game but you get them through in game actions rather than buying them (including sacraficing your minions). Solves the overpopulation problem I guess, but I'm not keen on the idea. The game shouldn't need speed boosts dependent on an abstract currency, it should play faster if I am forcing my people to work harder or being very efficient with my population.

Called it~ I predicted this would happen ages ago, considering how ingrained the usage of gems is to the core game it was inevitable that they make their return to the PC version aswell.

Please tell me you're lying, or kidding. EDIT: After reading the update post, I'll just have to judge the gems mechanic once I can get home and play In other news: Well, the 12yr olds on Steam are loosing thier shit right now; it's like someone put a piñata in the ball pit at Chuck E. Cheese's

Just read thisYou know, gems might be a go-to F2P thing. But I like sacrificing people. And given the other elements of the game (the likely chance of us getting the game we originally expected), I'm willing to settle for this. Granted, from here on I do expect them to fullfill other elements. Particularly regarding choice and versatility/variety. And I DEFINITELY will want to see more adversity. But in the meantime, having this as a makeshift bandage instead of insane timers and sitting, waiting, wishing... I think this is somewhat acceptable in concept. That said, I have not played it yet... I'd need to test it first (which I'll probably do either later to day or later this weekend depending on how things go), so we'll see. One thing though. Am I really seeing it correctly that settlements now have 'swipe to collect' mechanics implemented for collection of crops (And I assume ore later) I'll just leave you guys with this:

I don't believe for the smallest second that 22Cans love gems because they "allow players to move at their own pace". I think they love gems because gems make them money in the mobile version and it would be unfeasible to remove them from the PC game because they're too fundamental to the design. I can't help feeling a kneejerk reaction to this news, but as Danjal said I'm prepared to wait and see how it plays out.

Here's the dealo right: Don't call them gems for gods sake (pun somewhat intended).
Belief feels like a godly thing, you know what doesn't feel godly? Gems. Call gems 'Power', or 'Holiness' or 'Sacred Relics' or something, but just not gems. That way, when you go to the gem shop, instead of "pay 50 gems to gain 10k belief", instead you "perform a miracle costing 50 power, that impresses you followers so much they grant you 10k belief". Suddenly it doesn't feel like a jarring F2P addition to the game, and instead feels like a normal part of Godly life.
edit: And I should point out, dead people -> gems seems kinda strange, but dead power -> Holy Power seems much more reasonable.

I completely agree with this concept, it'd be so much better. Like with stickers - just changing the name could already do so much. I also request the ability to 'create' sacrificial altars. The idea of having trainlines run towards spawn to kill off hundreds of people feels very WWII-ish. And I have no intention of calling my starting settlement Auschwitz if you know what I mean. Its the little things that count when you can't get around to fixing the big things.

I like 'Sacred Relics' a lot that sounds so much better. It not like the people are "sacrificing the gems to us as god or anything. The term gem does not help get rid of the money grab feeling.

The preliminary reports have me worried and conflicted. Once I get home and settle in (gotta pick up some groceries and dinner), think I'm going to spend portions of my weekend playing and taking notes. Of course, I might just end up dismayed and uninstall again.
Oh, and I think maybe I want a Bucket Stankus vinyl collectible figure... maybe a plushy.

I don't know how everyone's schedule is, but perhaps its an idea to get some people on voice-chat so we can bounce our frustrations off against eachother?

If I win the lottery tomorrow I will buy 22Cans and tell them to scrap the whole project and restart from scratch.

If I win the lottery tomorrow I will buy 22Cans and tell them to scrap the whole project and restart from scratch. Zen scratch. I don't find this game to be " Zen-like" at all. I think a better word would be " Catatonic". Although, admittedly, it does have a sense of catharsis, but mostly because it really messes with emotions; you want to like it, but then you hate it, and then you are conflicted.

It seems the only 22Cans employee with the guts to look at the forum today is Raspofabs.
