Is anyone else excited about Stellaris coming out in May? I am more excited about this game than I have been about anything in a very long time.
Check out this video which gives a good overview of how the early stages of the game look.

Holy crap, it's what I wanted from Sins of Solar Empire. The different FTL types, I mean.

Holy crap, it's what I wanted from Sins of Solar Empire. The different FTL types, I mean. Its a very interesting concept changing both the speed and the means of travelling within systems and in the case of wormhole gates removes a mandatory component from the ship design.
The whole game looks amazing, even if it doesn't work out for some reason I love the chutzpah they have shown in creating a game on this scale. There are so many well thought out features and there is so much customisation possible. I also dig their "Make Space Great Again" hats. Space has been decidedly not great since MOO2.
I love the fact that when you meet a species you don't know whether it is a player or not. You have to research them first before you can communicate. In my group of friends we have agreed to stick to the in game communication meaning that when you meet someone you wont know who they are or even whether they are human, AI or just an anomaly. That should spice up first contact.

Personally I still want Heighliners as another way of FTL.

So who has prebought Stellaris?

Not me. I have pretty much sworn off pre-orders. Fallout 4 was my last, but I stopped mostly because, A) I have too many games, and B) I have "invested" in too many games that haven't even been released yet. So, I needed to put a stop to it and try enjoying the games I already have, while waiting for the ones I've funded.

I made similar promises to myself for similar reasons but my will broke on this one. They didn't ever offer a preorder discount. Well, the game launches in the next 24 hours so when I get some play time under my belt I'll let you all know if it is worth the money.

So what's your opinion then hardlyUnfortunately I can't play until tonight. The game released at 2am here so I was asleep and then I had to go to work. I'll play several nights this week and then I have Friday off work to play multiplayer with my mates so should have a good sense of it by then.

Wow; "...my 80-plus hours thus far with Stellaris..." At least he put some time into playing.
Well, I'm interested in hearing your opinions, since you were looking forward to it, and this game looks interesting on the surface.

Well, I'm interested in hearing your opinions, since you were looking forward to it, and this game looks interesting on the surface. I'll probably have a fair idea of its quality by Friday after my first multiplayer game but it's a big game so it will take a while to get the measure of it.

I'm starting to get the hang of the interface. Im finding it quite zen at the moment. Feels fun but who knows if it has long term appeal.
